I'm new at this..

When you guys play, do you actually watch each game? Or do you sim through it game by game and look at stats.. Or of course do you just sim through the season as fast as you can? I see people talking about Leagues, how do those work usually. Do they sim a game a day, or a few. This sounds so freakin fun. I have been playing the Demo version 4, and just playing that gets me excited as heck! Wow, I will definitely be a buyer one minute after release. Thanks if you guys answer my questions.

We had a poll on wether you play each game or sim. and its so mixed. Some people have leagues where they sim and then play games. some just play games, some just sim. Its basically what you want to do. You should aim for 30 seconds after release

Well ... it all depends on the person ... Some people sim quickly, some people play out all the games, some do a combination ... It's more of a preference really ...

As for online leagues, they are leagues in which human owners can compete against each other, and again, the amount of simming seems to vary from league to league... usually anywhere from simming a day, to simming two weeks at a time.

Solo play - I usually manage each game, simming a game here or there.

On Line Leagues are all sim based (to my knowledge) with various game spans simmed each session, depending on the league.

I would recommed you buy version 5 when it comes out on Friday. You'll see a huge difference from v4 demo.

Talking lol

hah.. well, I was actually looking at about 3 minutes and 42 seconds, but just might go with 30 seconds.. lol

thanks..

with the demo i 'played' a few games to get a feel for it. and i really really like it. but could i do that for 162 games a year? probably not. it just sounds insane(ly fun). we shall see come friday what my decision is. sadly i might have to wait until monday to do it. but either way i'll have a blast..

fan of sim games...

I really love playing manager type games and managing AAA/AA/A and that sort of thing.. Although I loooove playing video games, or whatever happens to be out(friend and I are going to be starting a Dynasty on Thursday with All Start Baseball 2004). I still like playing games for real, but managing them is just funner for me. As it probably is for almost everyone in here, as you wouldn't be here otherwise. Since that is pretty much all i did in video games(hh03 pc last year, asb2003 ps2) was simulate games and manage my team, that I'm so happy that I ran across this game today. MAN.. At a not-bad price of 35 bucks. my girlfriend didn't even whine about the price when I told her about it. She's just happy that it's not 50 bucks for a ps2 game or something.

If you don't want to play out every game then you could just play the first game of each series or something like that.

I sim, a month at a time, stopping for injuries, trade offers and the like. Then, when I get to the playoffs, I play each game individually. I may change a bit for v5, and do just a week at a time, so that I am able to work better with my owner if he has desires, and also because it will be more important that I do well, since I could get fired.

I play out every game of every season. Sometimes if my team is out of it in the middle of Sept. I will sim the last 2 weeks or so.

I just sim each week, then go over the news reports and transactions news, then see what happened with my team and it's players. I'll stop for the bad injuries (non DTD) and trades.

When I play solo, I sim through the first 6 innings... then I have a practiced technique of averting my eyes while getting to the game log so I don't know what happened. I read through the game log, then play out the last 3 innings unless it's a blowout.

I play the whole game out if it's the postseason, though.

I set up a solo All-Time All-Star League with the 16 original franchises and 4 teams composed of expansion teams. I have an American and National League who play for the World Series. The Pacific Coast League plays the American Association in the Little World Series (Class AAA). The Southeastern Association and Southwestern Association play in the Southern Series (Class AA title) and the Eastern and Western Leagues play the East-West Series for the Class A championship.

Included in my leagues are about 120 great players from the Negro and Japanese Leagues. I also added some great career minor leaguers.

Each Major League team has a Class AAA, AA and A farm team.
The major league rosters have players from the early years of baseball beginning in 1900...Class A teams have players from the last 10 years.

I have 4 separate leagues so I can play out the minor league games. I disable the minors in each league. I manually promote and demote players from one classification to another.

I'm hoping one day OOTP will make it possible to play out the minor league games, rather than just sim them. Then I can use the transaction screen to promote and demote players from one classification to another.

I play an entire day's schedule play-by-play in one league each day and sim the day's schedule for the other three leagues. I rotate the league I play each day so I can get familiar with all of the teams in all 4 separate leagues (80 teams with 2000 players).

Church, holy crap! That's amazing that you do all of that.

As for me, I play 1 of 2 ways:

1) GM my team in the preseason, then sim month by month, making any changes I see fit, get to the postseason and play out every game my team is in.

2) auto the preseason, sim the entire season, get to the postseason and play out most of the games my team is in.

Either way, I export the stats at the end of the season into an excel workbook that calculates lots of different things, spits out award winners, etc and archives the stats. This last part is my favorite part I think, though I'm not sure why.

Since we'll be able to sim X amount of years at a time in OOTP5, I think i'm going to create a 24 team league and sim about 20 seasons the first day. Then I'll pick the worst team in the league in terms of record and money problems and become their manager on the hardest difficulty rating, and manage every game. I'm hoping this will make for more of a challenge than OOTP4 (where I could stockpile young talent and win 100+ games a year). It'll also be nice to have the statisical base that comes with simming 20 years. I'd like to thank whoever brought up the idea of being able to sim lots of years with a push of a button.. it's going to be great

I play through every game. Took ages to get through 162 games in my first ever season. But now with all the tendencies I may be more inclined to sim on occasion.

I sim a month at a time. Check out the stats, then sim another month. I've simmed thru an insane amount of seasons this way. One league is in year 2095, another in 2086, another 2059.., and I have probily about 7-10 leagues around the year 2025.

Occasionaly i'll manage, usually only in the playoffs in a game 7.
