Chicago Barbers steal an amazing total of 4 bases

In one inning? In one game? Nope. They stole 4 bases total for an entire 136 game season. Never knew that the stolen base became such a forgotten art during the 50's. I'm 8 1/2 seasons into (1958) my random debut league and I think the individual career leader has something like 132 steals.

I've seen teams do this in online leagues because even with great base stealers, the CS gets so high. The percentage of CS is way higher than whatever SABR defines as efficient base stealing.

For example, I have a player that is actually 80/80/80 on speed/stealing/baserunning/ (this is on the 80 point scale that scouts use, not out of 100)

He stole 54 bases and was caught 31 times.

Is it worth trying to steal at all in OOTP?

I've had a guy steal 7 bases in one game (admittedly I was controlling the team, and I like to run with guys with high speed and steal ratings).

Will try and remember to check this when I get home from work. The Barbers have always had some pop in the lineup. Jim Wynn, George Bell and Jason Giambi being their main bats.

Is it worth trying to steal at all in OOTP?
Sure it is.

If CS is too high the league settings are off. The real MLB average SB% has varied little in a decade (71%-74%). This is completely controllable in OOTP and in my experience very stable and reproducible. The league commissioners should check league stat output then adjust league total modifiers related to SB success and SB attempts.

Now one negative is that SB success by individual players is more widely distributed ie you will see a bunch of 70%-80% guys but not enough 85% guys. That's understandable in a ratings based sim IMO. This could occur because of player ratings distribution and/or AI strategy. This may or may not matter to you. The key point is you can get realistic CS%.

I had an online league team attempt only 6 stolen bases in 129 games. We were successful 5 times, though, and did have a ton of power in the lineup.

I would guess his player strategy for base running is set to extreme for aggressiveness

Figures they'd be near the bottom but at least they got to triple digits.

Was each safe call on those SBs a close shave?
