Cost per WAR in Free Agency

What are we thinking, around $3m per win, give or take?

So a superstar giving you 5/6 WAR per year is looking at around $15/$20m per.

That about right?

The 2014 numbers are closer to $6M per Fangraphs and it's been around $5M since the recession started, so that looks a bit low to me.

I believe in the 2013/2014 offseason it was closer to 7m/WAR on the open market.

Indeed tejdog, excellent article here on the cost of a free agent WAR.

How Much Does a Win Really Cost? - Beyond the Box Score

As you say, about $7m, a staggering amount really.

Yeah, it was recently ~$7MM/win, but that's a pretty new number. The inflation's been pretty staggering - two years ago it was about $5.5MM/win. I don't really blame OOTP for not figuring out that baseball is experiencing unusual inflation due to gigantic revenue increases (thanks to TV money).

When Homer Bailey's are getting 100m contracts, ... I mean... cmon, lol.

Is the value in OOTP constant, or does it shift/grow as in real life MLB?

In historical leagues it grows in accordance with real life MLB, in fictional and modern leagues it stays constant, though I often simulate inflation by changing the financial numbers.

I would say the actual number is closer to $6M as that has been the average the past 5 years

There is a difference between the cost of a win and what a player gets on the open market.
