Backup question

Hey guys, when I finish playing, I backup directly to a flash drive but I am finding the backup is taking an awfully long time to perform, anywhere from 7 to 10 minutes. Is this normal? Is it the size of my league?

I5 processor and 8 gigs of RAM.

7 to 10 mins? I would kill for that. Mine takes on average of 35 mins for a 2 GB league and I dont use any almanac options. When I ran my almanac it took 2+ hrs on 13.
You can save time by just copying the .DAT files but you would lose uniforms and perhaps parks. I backup 2-3 times per season. I only do a full backup in January. I save to my X drive.

You could maybe increase your transfer times with a USB3.0 drive and (I think) an SSD.

Like TG said, you can adjust how long it takes by not backing everything up. The only absolutely must files are the dats.

This has been my username on the Stratomatic forum for several years. I started getting into the general management sims a few years ago and it seems as though there is now no turning back.

It is somewhat ironic that I have chosen to use canadian content as a username given the fact that I am against what it normally represents (as you may know being a fellow Canadian) that a certain percentage of broadcasting in radio or TV must be 'Canadian'. Normally, we wouldn't have had to endure all of those really bad Parachute Club songs back in the 80's if it wasn't for the CTRC and their 'Canadian Content' stipulations.

1980's? Don't forget about Glass Tiger, Honeymoon Suite, Flock of Seagulls, Loverboy etc...Yeccch! The problem with Can-Con is it overplays everyone to the point where you get bored even with good bands.

Zip up your league with 7-Zip (free) and the copy the .zip gold to your backup media. It gives you two backups and it's faster.

can't blame CanCon for A Flock of Seagulls..... they were english.... (and i loved AFOS)

This is essentially what I do but with different software. Much faster.

Maybe i should try this instead. I use WinRar but i do it after i backup my league and put it on my Xdrive.

Yeah the biggest culprit in prolonging an in-game backup (in my experience) is almanacs. I use almanacs, but I always move them into a folder *outside* the saved-game folder (but still in the OOTP folder in My Documents). It means I can't view the almanac from inside the game, but since everything is just access it from the filesystem using your default browser.
