Introducing Hardball

Having read all the posts lately about the lack of great owners, and how many "quality" leagues there was out there, I was a little nervous to put out my league, Hardball. However, knowing how many good owners there are out there, and knowing that I can run a great league (used to run a Madden Sim), I have a feeling this league will be one of the best given some time.

Here's the backround on the league:

Name: Hardball
Website: http://simsportsworld.com
# of Teams: 16
Player Database: Fictional
Sims: Twice a Week, 15/16 Days at a Time
Coaches/Scouts: Off
DH: OFF
Salary Cap: On

I am devoting all my free time to this league, so I would like to see owners who actually want to play join. Those who are quitters, or get bored with things easily, do not join. This league will require you to stay active, and if you don't, we will find a new owner. No sense in having a half active owner, when a great owner could be on the outside looking in.

Lineups will be submitted by FTP, and since that is so easy, you will be required to hand in a lineup for every sim (missing 1 or 2 is fine, missing 5 or 6 is not). Posting on the Message Boards is encouraged, and just plain old fun is expected!

The Initial Draft will be CPU ran, serpentine style, once the league is full. Also, in-depth team pages, and league articles can, and will be expected from me, as I like to do things right, with a lot of extra features.

Currently, Church (commish of imlb) is making team logos, so we all know how great they will look The 16 Franchises are as follows:

Boston Glory
DC Senators
New York Freedom
Pittsburgh Steel
Chicago Windstorm
Detroit Ignition
Indiana Racers
Toronto Harbour
Houston Desperados
Orlando Scorch
New Orleans Fiesta
San Juan Banditos
Honolulu Crusaders
Los Angeles Stars
San Francisco Miners
Seattle Rainstorm

If you would like to join, email commish@simsportsworld.com with the following info:

First/Last Name
Age
Email
AIM S/N (if you have one)
5 Teams of Choice
A short explanation on why you want to join

Just an FYI, I really do not like owners who do not know how to spell correctly, or use correct grammar For some reason it gets on my nerves, so if you can not take the time to spell out the words "you" "what", it's probably best you did not sign up

Also, you need the latest update of OOTP4 to join, version 4.2B, and the league WILL convert to OOTP5 within a month of it coming out, so only join if you plan on buying OOTP5

Thanks for your time, and hopefully I will see you in the league!

Just to let you know, the correct way for Torontonians to spell harbor is harbour. Odd nick to give Toronto.

Some nice nicknames there. I couldn't help but notice over half are non-plural team names. We have Indiana Racers in the USBA as well. Clearly it makes sense for Indianapolis.

Good luck with your league!

I love one name leagues, IMO there are too many BL's, LB's, Assocations and Federations. I am experimenting with a one name league myself.

LOL, Here was the thought process on Indiana:

Indiana.... racing... Pacers.... Racers!

As for the now plural names, I guess that's just how it worked out. I also like not having non-plural, but don't ask why.

Unfortunately I didn't know the Canadian ways, but thanks for the info! It has been changed.

Funny you mentioned that, I said the same exact thing to my buddy once I saw the players in the league. I noticed there's a surplus in power, and there's no stud pitchers.

You should join, maybe there's a chance you could get him

Last 10 teams left, so far the owner base seems very good! All owners above 20, a few in their 40's, so we have experience However, that doesn't mean if you are young you can't join! A variety of owners always equals the most competition!

One Canadian franchise and it's in Toronto . Would be nice to have something more original sometimes... how about Moncton?

I may expand a team into Winnipeg in a league next year. Winnipeg has always been a nice name for a city IMO lol.

heh. Well done. Seriously though... if Montreal can't generate attendance, how the hell would Moncton? Toronto is really the only city in Canada that can handle baseball.

Seriously though, why Harbours? Although Toronto really doesn't have a common theme among its teams, I don't get this one. Yes, there is a harbour downtown. Yes, it's "technically" active, but all the big ships down there I don't think I've ever seen move my entire life. You could of course just name the team the Toronto Arrogance.

I always have trouble naming my Toronto teams. For my current solo league I originally had them as the Capitalists, then my gf suggested Towers which I've used since. I was going to make a joke earlier like crackpott's about T.O. having the rep of being arrogant, I don't think there's much else that really stands out for Toronto for most Canadians.

What other names do people give Toronto teams?

Well when you think of Toronto, Maple Leafs and Beer come to mind probably. I figured, "heck, they are in the Great Lakes division, so why not give them a nickname that deals with the lakes". That's how Harbour came along.

It's not that bad actually. It's original and most importantly to me, it has something to do with the city, unlike some franchise names.
