Commish checklists? Simming checklists?

Ok guys,

I may be commishing my own league soon and was hoping some of you could help me out with checklists that you use while simming and/or doing other functions for your leagues.

I have played in plenty of leagues over the years, and even commished a High Heat league way back when.

That said, there are many, many questions that I have about the little tiny details that at this time are too numerous to post here.

If you are willing to share your methods and experience with me it would be greatly appreciated.

My email address is jaxxvain at yahoo
(I am sure you know how to edit the above email address to the true syntax.)

My 4 year old son suggested I use the magic word.

Please?

Seriously though, any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated and help me to not make the mistakes that other rookie Commishes make.

Feel free to contact me on AIM at juicebox3313 if you have it. There are a lot of variables and it's easier to explain in a real time conversation.

thanks for the reply molarmite.

the large number of variables is partly why I wanted to see a checklist of sorts first, and then bounce questions of that. I do appreciate your offer, and if I get that far along and have questions I will try to get you on AIM.

I've got a couple for you. The one I'll just copy and paste is from sub-commishing for the CBL. It's pretty short and it looks like it was for OOTP6, but it gets the job done. The KBL one I'll attach is very detailed and also from the OOTP6 days, but it's good to come up with something detailed to:

1) cover all the different situations you might come across so you don't have to re-think things,
2) tell everyone that this is exactly how every situation will be handled, and
3) give a sub-commish detailed instructions.

Note however that OOTPX automates a lot of things and allows for a lot of others so neither OOTP6 list of mine would probably work too well without overhauling it for OOTPX.

Quote:
- Import
- Sim 1 Week
- Move Exports (from league dir to Old Exports dir)
- Backup a
- Process (Trades, Waivers, FA, Releases, Extensions)
- Save
- Gen Reports
- Backup b
- Upload _cbl.zip (cbl.zip to downloads dir, reports to cbl dir and csvs (no if no BOSI pw) to temp dir)
- Post
- Update BOSI
Note: It's my strong preference that movement/transactions get actioned before a sim, but Chris liked it for some reason after a sim.

Here's what I do:

  1. Make sure I have a current backup of the league (every time I back up the file, I rename it to the date so they don't overwrite)
  2. Import all of the exports
  3. Check DFA and demote/release any players who have less than 1 week left (my waivers are set to 8 days, DFA to 15, so if they're on DFA with less than a week, they've cleared waivers already)
  4. Re-check PMs/emails for any instructions that may have been emailed to me by a GM who is on vacation/without game access for that sim
  5. Sim forward, day by day; making note of anything interesting that may have happened for my short sim write-up
  6. Process any trades
  7. Save the league
  8. Create CSV and SQL dumps for the utilities
  9. Create the HTML reports via the Game Setup (not the automator panel)
  10. Upload the CSV and SQL files using a FTP client while the reports are being created
  11. Write up sim report for email/posting while HTML is finishing
  12. When HTML .tar.gz is created, upload it using FTP client
  13. Backup league and rename the folder when done
  14. Unzip HTML
  15. Create & Upload league file and Create & send result emails via the automator
  16. Generate CSV reports (Last Sim and Dev) and load SQL to get utilities up to date while file is creating/uploading
  17. Update website info

great stuff guys, thanks!

I will go over all this stuff and then run some test sims to see if I have any questions.

If any other commishes want to post go right ahead. I would even suggest that this should be a sticky post for budding commissioners.
