Lovin' the Injuries

No, seriously. I'm not being sarcastic one bit. Yeah, a lot of players get hurt and that sucks when you're counting on them, but I love how the game has to balance those hits to development and performance with more out of the blue surprises. You don't want to get as attached to your favourite players because you don't want to feel as bad when they get hurt and lose their ratings, but I love seeing guys whom you expected nothing of to come out of nowhere and turn into stars for you. Back in the OOTP6 days you could pretty much rely on certain players coming through for you and you could do a pretty good job of predicting the fortunes of most teams. Now things aren't nearly as all laid out ahead of time. I've always been big on depth, but now depth is so much more important. Teams that don't have much depth fairly quickly fall by the way-side while if you have 3 or 4 backups almost as good as your starters then you can suffer a few injuries at a time, no problem. I'm lovin' it. Now I'm sure injuries could be improved even more, but I'm pretty happy with what I'm seeing.

Now watch me come back and throw a fit when I lose a favourite player to a CEI. Let's just hope that doesn't happen.

I also like the challenges involved with having alot of injuries, but I will admit to turning it down to OOTP classic. I'm hoping I can put it back up to realistic modern if Markus tweaked it alittle....

In my redraft league, where all MLBers were pooled and distributed among 30 teams, Jimmy Rollins is my SS. He went out for 2 weeks and my team went on a 8-2 tear with some scrub playing SS. Plus it made my lineups way interesting for 2 weeks sans starting SS and leadoff hitter.

It really makes you think about your lineups when a 1st stringer goes down. Glad you have discovered this game, it is very addicting. Welcome aboard..

Yeah, but it is not even July and I have 7 combined MLB and AAA outfielders out 2 weeks to 4 months. Come On, 7? I have NEVER seen that before.

What I don't understand is why injury frequency was added to the on-field injuries but NOT the off-field injuries. Frequency is even more important in the off-field injuries because there's such a wide variety of events in the database. Some of these happen as often as every few weeks. Others may have happened once ever in the history of baseball!

Sadly, this is yet another example of something important finally be addressed in OOTP, but so incompletely that it results in even greater frustration.

That brings up something I've been wondering about: Are injury frequencies the same whether you have off-field enabled or not? I would think they would be, but with this game it's bad to assume.
