MLB: 1958 and Beyond...: Sign-up Thread

This is the thread where I'll be taking sign-ups for community members to be included in my MLB: 1958 and Beyond... dynasty.

I've had a look at how others have approached this in the past and have decided on the format I'll be using. For position players you'll be able to choose two of the five rating categories (or Base Running) that will be outstanding and one that will be above average. Pitchers can choose one of the three rating categories (or Base Running) to be outstanding and another that will be above average. By outstanding I mean that the player's talent rating in that skill will be between 80 and 90 while above average will be between 60 and 75. As you'll all be rookies I'll be making your current ratings somewhere between 30% and 60% of your talent rating. This will be determined by a random number generator. I want your players to be talented enough so that they'll have a reasonable chance of making an impact in the big leagues, otherwise it's a waste of time including them in it. I know it doesn't always work out that like that in the game but I think the way I'm doing it will help their chances.

I'm planning to introduce six rookies each season, starting in 1960. As I've mentioned in the thread, I'm posting this dynasty on both the OOTP and TSWr boards so, depending on the interest there'll be an even split of players from each board.

To keep it realistic, I would prefer that your player is from somewhere in the United States as there were not a great amount of foreign players in MLB back in the '60s. Of course, as the dynasty progresses closer to modern times that will change. I'd also request not to pick and silly/unrealistic names for your player. You can use your real name if you wish but for those who have fighters in my TBCB dynasty I would prefer if you didn't use the same name you've used in that as this dynasty is set in the same "universe" as it. I will also say up front that I'll be giving initial preferences for the 1960 season to those who have taken an active interest in the dynasty by posting comments within the thread.

Please fill in the following details:

PLAYER NAME:
HOMETOWN:
BIRTH DATE (YEAR NOT REQUIRED):
HEIGHT:
WEIGHT:
BATS (L/R):
THROWS (L/R):
POSITION:

SKILL RATINGS

POSITION PLAYERS
Contact, Gap Power, Home Run Power, Eye, Avoid K's, Base Running

CHOOSE TWO OUTSTANDING SKILLS:
CHOOSE ONE ABOVE AVERAGE SKILL:

PITCHERS
Stuff, Control, Movement, Base Running

CHOOSE ONE OUTSTANDING SKILL:
CHOOSE ONE ABOVE AVERAGE SKILL:

***

I'll be letting the game take care of the Desire for Winner, Loyalty, etc. categories, aswell as the running and bunting ones.

Thanks to everyone who shows an interest in this. I'm looking forward to including your players in my dynasty.

Since I have a HBF character so I can't use my real name I'll just use my dad instead. I figure since it is in the same universe this should be a cool little connection you could use in the HBF or something.

Thanks, Romy. I just need you to give the player a date of birth, eg. 10 May.

Opps, I misread the birth date and thought it said that it wasn't required and not just the year wasn't needed.

Hey, k_c... would it be possible to have speed as a skill we can juice up for position players?

Are you talking about the base running speed?

I don't think that should be a problem. I'll add that into the original post. What will happen is that if you choose to have Baserunning as one of your above average or outstanding talents then the categories that apply to base running (including stealing and instincts) will all be boosted. However, it means you'll only be able to boost two of the five main skill categories.

Romy, if you'd like to make your guy a better than average base runner you can make an edit if you wish. You'll just have to drop one of the other categories.

How many positions can I pick? I'd like to create my dad but he probably played just every position at some point. Can I at least pick 2 or 3?

I don't think version 6.12 allows you to specify an alternate position, so unfortunately you can only pick one.

Name: Philip Kasey (Note: just one L in his first name
Hometown: Galax, VA
Born: 5/15/1941 (if you can make him 22 or so, he went into the Marines after high school, so I want to keep with that)
Ht: 5"10
Wt: 200
Bats: Right
Throws: Right
Pos: SS (we'll go with this)

Outstanding skills: Contact, Eye
Above Avg. Skill: Gap power

Note: I would prefer 1963 as his debut. But, if later adjust birth year accordingly to keep him 22.

HOMETOWN: Lafayette, IN

The nickname is ironic: Denton doesn't do anything slowly. He talks fast, he's twitchy, he can't bear to be at the plate and not swing, he can't bear to be on the basepaths and not run. Lucky for him, his legs work as fast as his mouth, and as many swings as he's made since he first picked up a bat, he's pretty good at making contact on just about everything.

Excellent, it will be fun to watch our guys develop into this baseball world.

P.S. Are we able to give our guys nicknames and such? I know its only a minor thing, but fun none the less.

Don't see why not. Of course, nicknames develop over time so they wouldn't be introduced when you're rookies.
