I think it would be cool if the 3D rendering was similar to that of EA's FIFA Manager. It gives you the option to sim at variable speeds or play the game as 1 of the 11 players on your squad. Pretty neat if you haven't checked it out.

Just give me minimal visuals, a la Puresim and I'll be happy.

Would love to see an alive field. it could be similar to what there is now, just animated little circles for players with their numbers on them in team colors. showing the flight of the ball would great. it doesnt have to be much to please me.

I'd probably turn my back on the series if it went the way of console game graphics. It's not that I hate what they look like, but the minimum hardware requirements needed and especially how much programming time that would be taken away from more important parts of the game.

MicroLeague like graphics OTOH would be awesome.

Its way too early for this to be debated. I hope something majors in the works for OOTPX, but I can't honestly say I'd prefer this to a few other things.

I would like some kind of simple animation, but only if it is done well.

Leave it off until it can be done right.

I totally agree with Eugene. I'd love some animation if it was done right. Puresim's limited animation is fine with me, or go old school ala Micro League, Pure-Stat.

Interesting results so far. Maybe this will be helpful for Markus. (I hope so.)

I know that I remember Markus bringing up one of the things "he" wanted was some 2-D animation as far back as OOTP 5 or 6 (it might have been longer ago). I think based on the fact its somewhere on his personal wishlist for at least the last few versions that it will one day be in the game. If that is OOTP 10 or 11 or 15, who knows, though.

I think the goal should be Front Page Baseball or Tony LaRussa 2. Both of those graphics were far better than the almost cartoonish Micro-League.

Next Gen graphics are a pipe dream anyway - those products have hundreds of programmers.

Not just that...but those games, IMO, always sacrifice at least some substance for flash and eye candy...which is why they never compare for me in long term experience as something like OOTP.

In a perfect world, sure it would be awesome to have amazing graphics PLUS solid gameplay and customization etc etc that have been the strengths of the OOTP series IMO....but I don't think its realistic.

I voted NO. However, I like MLB's Gameday graphics. I much prefer "pitch location" graphics over an animated ball flight and little Microleague stickmen running about. FM type discs might be OK.

However, I very much prefer an "expansion of the play by play text" over anymore added graphics. I'm betting that the day when Markus start concentrating on a graphical display everything else will suffer. I've never seen it NOT happen. Markus would be the first.

Giants44, of course that would be great, if the sim quality wasn't affected. I only suggested Micro League type graphics (in a previous thread) because it would accomplish what many of us would like to see without consuming the developer's resources to the point where the game suffers.

They are way too cartoonish. I would do something more similar to Tony Larussa, where you might be able to change the ballpark, and that would be the main graphic. It would be an extremely wide shot, where the field and stadium are the most prominent part of the graphics. Then you would have players, which appear to be little more than dots from this vantage point, and a very very small white ball.

If we don't want to get into stadium art, then something similar to WWSM, except maybe the field dimensions could be represented, along with turf, grass, etc..

It was, in fact because it was my first computer baseball game. God I loved the 82 cardinals...

What we'd do is a view very similar to FM. 2D with circles in the colors of the team + the jersey number. Then a ballpark background image that is generated using the wall distance & heigh information, or a customized image.

That is definitely something for the future, but if we're all lucky then it's for OOTP 10

For me, the game is a lot more interesting when I can see the actual pictures of the real MLB players on the field. It feels more like baseball and you get attached to your players. (I tried fantasy players with facegen and it doesn't do anything for me). Pictures of the real baseball parks are also important, gives you the feeling that you are actually there.

Some sort of animation would be the icing on the cake.

And making it so that it can be toggled on/off then there wouldn't be a complaint from anyone.
