9 Endurance SP averaging 5IP per game

Player Report for #29 Charles Nava

I have a pitcher that has a 9 endurance and is routinely lifted from the game way too early. I've seen plenty of games where he is taken out in the 4th or 5th inning after giving up just 1 run and one hit.

He's entered the 7th inning only 3 out of 15 starts. In 6 of his last 10 starts he's been pulled BEFORE the 5th inning despite not having bad games. I mean, he does have a 7-3 record with a 2.81 ERA so its not like he's getting shelled.

Any ideas?

edit: his strategy settings are at default

i had this in my online league. the problem is that his position is listed as MR. even though you are starting him, since the position is listed as MR, there is some artificial cap on how much he can pitch in a game. change the position to SP and he will be able to make full use of his 9 in endurance.

He was on SP for most of the season. I recently changed him to MR to see if it would make a difference.

9 out of what? Also, have you cheated and looked at his actual endurance in the editor?

I was told he was a low-9. But still, he shouldn't be averaging 5IP with those numbers.

if the scale was 1-20 and not 1-10, then the 5 innings would make sense on a value of 9. also check to see if there is a pitch count set.

sorry, its a 1-10 scale. No pitch count set. For the time being I've set his hook to VERY slow and I'll see if that does anything.

I looked through those last 10 games.

On 6/23 he threw 69 pitches, and only 33 strikes. His last inning he walked 3 (total 5 in the game) and actually walked in a run.

On 6/17 he threw 96 pitches in 5 innings, 64 strikes. Much better, but lots of pitches.

On 6/12 he threw 75 in 6.1 innings, 49 strikes. Again not bad, struggled badly in the 6th though.

On 6/6 he threw 70 pitches in 4 innings, 42 strikes. No idea here, if the game knew that all those foul balls in the 4th were really balls that the batter helped out on maybe.

On 5/26 he threw 117 pitches in 8.2 innings, 79 strikes. Maybe he was still a little tired from this game when he threw the one on 6/6? He was never in trouble in this game until the 8th inning.

On 5/21 he threw 71 in 2.2 innings, 35 strikes. He just didn't have any manner of luck at all in this game.

On 5/16 he threw 69 pitches in 5.1 innings, 45 strikes. No idea on this one at all.

On 5/10 he threw 73 pitches in 2.1 innings, 40 strikes. His 3rd inning sucked, 2 walks (walked in a run), error, and a single.

On 5/5 he threw 69 in 4 innings, 44 strikes. Don't know about this one either, he walked the first batter of the 5th on 5 pitches, but struck out the previous 2 batters easily in the 4th.

Looks like you've got him on a short leash. In some cases he's being pulled with a close game, especially when he starts walking people left and right. In some cases he just sucks.
Always being around that 70 pitch mark is odd, but in several of those cases he does begin to suck at that point. If you look at the other years he was a full time starter he's not far off that mark: in 2021 and 2022 he average 5.2 innings per start, for you in 2026 he's averaging 5.1. So he hasn't changed... I'd guess that his average control and his tendency to get into jams with his walks is the problem.
Setting him up for a slow hook will probably help, and check out your overall strategy setting for the 4th through 6th innings, just to make sure you don't have those set strangely.

He averages 5.2 BB/9 throughout his career. By random chance, he'll be in a lot of situations where he's got lots of runners on base, hence in close games be a candidate to be lifted. Guys with such poor control have difficulty staying in games.
