One thing missing....
Would like to see the games played out in real-time action. It would be nice to see the games played out in your stadium and watch the action unfold Watch your young pitching or 5-tool prospect mature from being a rookie to the superstar if he doesnt fizzle out. Maybe with real-time-action you can also place the pitchers pitch anywhere. If you bean the batter you could possibly be thrown out and suspended. Having your batters question balls and strikes can get you thrown out as well depending on how much you argue. Umpires should have their own personalities to make the games being played out more interesting (different strike zones) and balk tendencies. A new value for pitchers can be balk tendencies. Balks are rare but it being possible would add to the realism. How about sending scouts to other teams and watching the games. A email can be sent to you explaining that a few scouts from other teams where watching my teams games.
ONe thing that I am dying to see in OOTP Baseball is watching the games. Instead of quick, play, and text, I am dying to see the game unfold right before my eyes. I hope OOTPB adds it because if another baseball management sim does, Im going to it. I saw one baseball sim allows you to place the pitch anywhere and it looks like they have a small action screen. OOTPB is my favorite for a few years as they get better and I havent looked at other baseball sims but the one baseball sim that allows you to place your pitch has caught my eye. Please Marcus, instead of text game or at least have the option, please add the game to be played out in action. I wish I could be in my stadium and watch the game (as well as placing the pitches anywhere). Vibrant stadiums, scoreboards that are updated in the stadium and the big screen that shows the player with his stats that is up at the plate would be a dream come true as well. |

Interesting Post. It would be pretty cool to have it all and maybe someday that will happen.
My preference at this point would be for the developers to continue to focus on improving the game as a GM simulation. Lets get to the point where there is near perfection in terms of the reality of being a GM before any time is spent making the in-game action more enjoyable. Thats just my feeling in terms of where the priorities should be at this time. You mentioned balks in your post. They are possible in ootp 7 and seem to occur with a pretty realistic frequency. There are not any 'balk ratings' at this time however. Im not sure if some pitchers are more predisposed to balking than others, or if it really just a flukey thing. You also brought up the ability to argue with the umpire. I can recall in prior versions having that option...it pretty much always led to being thrown out of the game. Though it did feel nice to vent during times of frustration i didnt find that it added much to the game play experience. Im not sure why it was removed from this version, though its not a feature that I miss. I do agree with you that it would add a touch of realism if pitchers were warned and eventually tossed (as well as the manager) for HBP. Sometimes when I need to intentionally walk a guy i just hit him with the first pitch to save pitches and hopefully injure their player (awful I know...). I wouldnt be able to practice such methods of brutality if they started tossing me for it. |

Ultimately, this would be a cool feature.
Playing 3d Baseball on Playstation and XBox, I like setting it to manager mode so I can basically watch my team play the game. The arcade games are a little lite on the manager aspects, and the stat games are lite on the graphics. I don't care about actually selecting the pitches/position, they have that in BB Mogul, and I didn't enjoy it. I still prefer purely being the manager/GM. |

I'm still convinced that any animation or real-time gameplay should be very limited, and I think the perfect example of what would work would be the ESPN GameCast.

I still think the future of these games is a total 3D environment. Imagine having the option to scout a player by watching him play. For example, in a draft, in addition to the stats, you could have an option next to the player to "View Scouting Tape". Then a window would load and clips of him playing in HS or College would play - you could actually see the player swinging the bat or pitching the ball.
Of course, it would take a lot of work and time to come to the point where the animations actually represent the player's ability, but still, that'd be a great thing to see in the game. |

In all seriousness, a 3-d (or, more realistically, a 2-d) representation of the games would be totally cool. However, that should never, ever be the focus of OOTP, and should never, ever take away from the continued development of OOTP as we know it today.

In the database there is an Overall, vs Left Handers, vs Right Handers and Potential for Balks, Hit Pitches and Wild Pitches. I haven't played with the figures yet, but I imagine I could make a pitcher who had a penchant for plunking lefties but left the righties alone...

I think if OOTPB is going to be the best and hugely sucessfull, I would love to see integration of a 3d universe with sound. The micromanagement is great and with added updates will be spectaculor. Nothing should be taken away, just added. I think a little integration of BB mogul with pitch selection and placement (checked or unchecked if you dont want it), as well as 3D stadiums and allowing you as GM to watch the game in action. Adding parking lots (adding revenue), transportation (subway, taxi, bus stations, near highways or near a street can affect traffic. Having a good team can affect nearby resturants and local shops which can influence the economy which in turns determines if people can continously afford to go to games (something wild but I thought of it :-)
Watching baseball games, how many times have we seen GM's at the game whether in the seats or up in the broadcast booth? Perhaps later on a feature that allows us to build stadiums or remodel them as well add concession stands, stores, and the selling of mechandise which we only see in the finance screen as merchandise revenue. Seeing scores of the other games whether its a nighttime game or not on the scoreboard as well as a national television channel like dedicated to sports (not sure if I can say the certain channel Im refering to) showing highlites, low-lites, homeruns of the day, spectacular plays ect. This can have an affect on national ratings and trickle down to the local ratings. See the media and wear they sit in the stadium to see your superstar who was found by your scouts, a defector with big ratings and you can build your team around (his personality ratings can affect this), see the media as well as spectators take pictures of your local player who reached a milestone. Have spectators react by booing at a player who has demanded a trade. Lifelike stadiums, watching the games, and other added features would blow any competition out. The updates as well as OOTPB 2007 is great and if there is anything else to add for GM's Im all for it. But I am dying to see 3D stadiums/sound/and an immense playing and watching factor that will blow me away. Im all for simulation; more of it; and more lifelike features. I love the fictional names because I wouldnt be able to trade Jose Reyes when hes in his late 30's lol. |

I agree that this already awesome game should someday have 3-D graphics. Total immersion is (for me at least) impossible without it. Maybe we could be thrown a 2-D bone to hold us over in the meantime. I saw a recent post where several people said they had started just simming their games. I have too. Reading all the play-by-play gets very tedious after a while. I'd be much less inclined to hit the sim button if I could actually watch my team play and hear the play-by-play instead of reading it. As stated in a previous post, don't take away from what makes this game great. Just maybe start putting a plan in place for future versions.

Yes I agree. Id love to see at least 2D and some sound to allow us to sample what could possibly be 3D graphics and beyond. At first when I started to play OOTPB ( I think OOTB 4), I was impressed with the play by play and the picture of the stadium but it got boring fast. The stadiums where the same, none of the players moved, no sound, and the text play by play, reminded me of the Zork games (text play). I dont even do the play by play anymore. I sim the games. If I can watch the games and be immersed in a 3D world simmming would be the thing of the past. Also it would stop me from finishing a season in 1-2 days lol. In my previous post I was also looking to see if eventually pitch location and type of pitch would be added sometime like in another baseball sim game (not sure if I can say it here). Being the GM and/or manager it would be different to watch the game unfold in 3D and you could be in the dugout instructing the pitcher what to throw and the location. Many managers use signs to tell the pitcher what and where to throw along with intentional walks. How about a random factor that shows up while rarely, a player who is spectaculor but is prone to problems outside of baseball. Do you suspend him with or without pay and for how many games? Does the League suspend him with or without pay and for how many games? How about end of the game press conferences like after the real life games? Seeing Willie Randolph talk to the media in his office or a player talking about his performance or lack of it? Are there players who refuse to talk? Players with attitude? This can hurt or help fan interest slightly. Actually Im kind of wishing also for an ESPN edition on OOTPB. Instead of seeing the stats on a screen, it would be cool to see it on ESPN or call the channel MarcusSportsNetwork lol. See the sportscasters talk about games that went on, going on, playoff race, hot/cold players, fantastic plays, bad plays, rsing superstars, duds, the amateur draft (give a small taste for your scouts or a hint if its deep or not so deep). Why wouldnt I be surprised if it is added it will find its way on YouTube lol.
With dual core processors dropping in price and quadcore processors lowering somewhat (hard drives at low prices), a lot can be handled and included whether its a large patch and/or super large expansion. LoL it would be funny if its all loaded onto a Blu-ray disc...that would be some sic graphics and then some. I sound like Im looking for a job lol. I wouldnt mind being a beta tester or asked by the OOTB staff. Please in 2008 dont make OOTPB 2008 but expand and bring 3D graphics and so much more to this one. I think this OOTPB (OOTPB 2007) is by far the best Ive played and better than other baseball sims by a longshot. |

If the team ever spent their time working on 2d or 3d graphics for gameplay, the rest of the game would suffer in the meantime. This is a text sim and should remain a text sim, period...IMHO.
