Worst refereeing you've ever seen

ESPN Classic showed a replay of the Haugen-Camacho fight last week. You know, the one that Camacho loses because the ref deducts a point from him in the final round for refusing to touch gloves. Split decision, one ref gave Haugen the match by a single point. I'm wondering... has anybody seen the referee negatively influence a fight as badly as that one?

The only other one I can think of that I've seen (also thanks to ESPN Classic) was Emile Grffith-Benny Paret. I know that standards were different then, but the ref was around 10 seconds too late in pulling Griffith off the man.

Hands down the Benn/McClellan fight. Should have been over in the first round but the referee gave Benn a slow count to give him time to get back into the ring after McClellan almost knocked him through the ropes. The ref showed numerous amount of favortism towards Benn the whole fight in regards to holding, hitting behind the head, ect.

Honorable mention goes to Manfredo/Calzaghe.

Hatton vs. Kosta Tszyu was one of the worst I've seen. Anytime Kosta mounted an attack the ref stopped it and warned him for something, meanwhile Hatton was headbutting and elbowing him.

I was honestly surprised that Hatton didn't try to knee Kosta in the grapes because that ref would have allowed it.

Agreed - The ref in the Benn / McClellan was just awful -

Right on the spot. McClellan wins that fight under any other circumstance. Ben didn't beat McClellan that night. The blood clot did. And the referee.

Ruby Goldstein, who had been around long enough to know better, didn't jump in soon enough. Paret was trapped in the corner and couldn't go to the canvas. A really bad, and tragic, misjudgement by a pretty good referee.

Predroza pounded LaPorte, who was then just a young pup, below the belt the whole fight.....no DQ was given....that was back in the day when title fights were on network TV and you could kick back and sip a few cool ones while watching great fighters.

I have a copy of that fight among my collection, and the referee was an absolute joke, but if my memory serves me correctly I believe one of the announcers saying under the current W.B.A. rules of the day a fighter could not
lose his belt by DQ. Pedroza was the modern day version of Fritzie Zivic and
Al "Bummy" Davis, he was as dirty as they come.

As for Ruby Goldstein, I think the fault also has to go to the NYSAC for giving the assignment to Goldstein only a few months after a very serious Heart Attack
and was clearly in no condition to be in the ring.
