My first NHL game

You'd think for a guy that a) lives in Canada, b) is the only person on this board to give a **** about hockey, I woudl ahve broken the NHL cherry before now, but nope. Been following the game since 1985, and the Ottawa Senators since they came back in 1992 (snce only jgrosse is the only one of us that saw the original Sens back in the day), but last Thursday was my first game that I've attended.

It was actualyl pretty wild. Good view, good game (although we lost). The seats are damn small though, and you defiantely dont' want to trip (its' a 25 or 30 degree angle, and we were three rows from the edge of the 300 series before you'd plummet to the 100 series 20 feet below). Also nothing like spending the game with three drunken knobs....I mean co-workers with big signs that we though said "HIT'EM!" (it really said Hii'EM since well....they were drunk), and trying to get our CEO's attention in the exec seats (aka the 200$ a pop section near ice level). Also funny as hell to have 20,000 people try to sign the National anthem and the whole stadium go almost slient when they get to the french part.

Here's some pictures of the action for those that give a ****.

Neil tries to get one past Kipper. Kipper and Emery (a shot on him will be up soon) were just on their game that night. It was like a pitcher's duel the whole night, neither goalie makign it easy. No wonder it ended up going 1-0.

An awesome hit by Phaneuf on Denis Hamel. It looked even worse then this from our seats, as Hamel looked like he was almost thrown across the ice.

Not the best shot of Emery (goalie), but it'll have to do. Kipper had the better night, so he got more of the pictures. Next time I've got to bring a camera.

Congrats on your first NHL game! I took Dargone to pop his hockey cherry last season and we had amazing seats for a Kings/Stars game. Can't wait to take him again (and hopefully turn him into a real fan one of these days).

I would have never figured. I am trying to get Blue Jackets tickets this season. The ECHL Dayton Bombers are nice, but I can just imagine how much faster and cleaner NHL play would be.

As a (5-0) Minnesota Wild season ticket holder I would like to object to your assumption that you are "only person on this board to give a **** about hockey"

I've been to 40 or 50 New England / Hartford Whalers games (NHL & WHA) over the years.

Haven't looked at the standings since that rat Karmonos took the boys to Carolina.

Also have attended 30 or so Maine college games when I lived there and maybe 10 or so UCONN Men's and Women's hockey games more recently.

Again, not true. I saw them early on. It was an awful game. 0-0 IIRC.

No kidding. I was waiting to see the stretcher come out. He landed like a sack of meat on the ice.

Ya, if the game wasn't 55$ for the cheap seats I'd do it more often, but that and the hour drive kills that noise.

Actually I found there wasnt' much of a difference. I had watched OHL before then (step up from the ECHL if I remember right) and there was a lot less mis-ques and what not.

Well ti was a copy/paste from another board, and with the many "is hockey really a sport liek NASCAR?!" BS, you never know.

Althouh you are a WIld fan, so hockey there might be a bit watered down

We should have tried to get him to replace Chara (who we shoudlnt' have let go in the first place), instead of Foote. Blah

How do you like the NHL gift-wrapping the CUp for Karmonos and his gang to keep the fans in the seats in Carolina?

First hockey games are amazing.

I'm trying to go to a Wings game over Thanksgiving break, but the money is crazy. Only reason I don't go to more games.

You guys smoked my Jackets last night. Not good times.

I'm going to Nationwide this Friday to add the Maple Leafs to the list of teams I've seen come through Columbus. I've been to about 40 games or so in the first 5 years. Hockey is so great live.

I like hockey, but the prices for decent tickets in Vancouver is ridiculous. Then again, I think we're soldout or close to it nearly every game so there's obviously a market for those prices. I won't go to a game unless I get free tickets which luckily happens every once in awhile.

I'd rather go to and pay for tickets to a WHL game. Some of those kids are pretty darn good!

Excellent pics, cc. Very clear.

I haven't been to an NHL game since the 80s.

I agree...WHL games are great and its good to see the future of the NHL for cheap.
