Hmmm, that's just weird.
I'm the one who put this entry into the text database, so it would be my mistake---except that the database doesn't contain this mistake, and neither does my copy of the english.XML file. To fix it, search for 15037 (the number of this text object) and change the left paren in front of "%pitching k" to a left bracket. I'm perplexed about how this error could have crept into your copy of the file. |

Interesting. My copy contained the error. Thanks for your help!

Holy moley. It gets weirder! I had opened and edited it in OpenOffice, but for some reason, OO would not let me save the changes in xml (wtf?). BUT, when I tried opening it again in TextEdit, the error did not show. Could it only be showing up in certain text editors somehow?

Sounds to me like it did save it even though it said it didn't.

I'm 99% sure it didn't. I force quit the program before it could have.

Adding to the weirdness:
When I search the database for “(%pitching k” several text objects are returned (but 15037 is not among them). All of the text objects I see in the search result do not display a left paren, so I don’t understand why they are showing up. When I search for “(%” (just as an experiment), I get a multitude of results, but, again, none of them actually displays a left paren in place of the left bracket. (If the left paren was actually present, the database and everyone’s XML file would be in terrible shape.) So, I surmise that there’s something wrong with the search function inside the database software in this instance (because it returns results that aren’t actually present in the data). When I examine or manipulate my own english.XML file, I right-click and open it in Wordpad (not OpenOffice, which I don’t have as an option), and I’ve never had any trouble getting the game to recognize changes I make to the file. |

Hrm, I'm closing this issue out, because it doesn't seem to be an issue of the game, it's more how the different text editors behave.
PM me if you disagree! Steve |
