Trying Out Leagues, Is It Looked Down Upon?

Someone recently asked me my opinion on a league. I knew nothing about it, but I suggested that they ask this forum for its opinion as there's probably somebody here with an opinion on it, or those in the league, or, if they were uncomfortable doing that, to just try it out for a couple weeks and see. I added, "some people might look down on that, but I think most of us don't expect people to stay if it's not quite what they want". Was I right about that? Of course, no one should expect someone to stick with a league for years if they're not happy with it, but I suspect some people might be bothered by some who ask to join and have the commish go through whatever he has to to get them started only for that new person to vanish soon afterwards. But I think most of us are probably fine with that happening every so often and would rather people at least try out their league than be hesitant and not try it out. Anyway, I think more people should try out more leagues and not be concerned with how it might look to others if they don't stay long. What's your take? Maybe we can see which leagues are try out friendly and which are not.

I don't really see a problem with it, but I think it would be courteous if the individual told the Commish up front that he was going to try the league out and if it didn't suit him, he'd probably leave. Depending on the pace of the league, I think it wouldn't hurt to stay for at least a full season or if you joined during a season stay until it ends.

and also leave when a replacement is found because it is your duty to stay in the league til a replacement is found so it's not on CPU.

I think that's too much to expect, but I don't expect everyone to expect what I expect. I sometimes see people offer to stay on until a new manager is found, and I think that's great of them, but that's beyond the call in my mind.

I agree its the Commish Job to find new a Member. I also wouldn´t have a problem with testing a League only problem i see is the varity of concepts one player wants to rebuilt another wants to content that can lead to a mess.

I don't care if people 'try out the league', what pisses me off is when they just quit and don't bother to notify the commmish. I can think of several adjectives for those people.....

Doesn't everyone try out a league when they first join, if you don't like it you quit as it would be silly to stay in a league you don't enjoy. I do agree with jestre though that if you leave a league at least tell the commish or one of the other GM's.
