OOTP vs. Baseball Mogul & other sims...

I'm probably gonna buy one of these next year and I was wondering which one has the most complete player development system. The game that has the best scouting, drafting and developing prospects and stuff.

Thanks for your time

OOTP has no real competition in the baseball text sim market.

This game is pretty solid.

With OOTP seemingly comfortable with its lead, I don't feel they made a whole lot of progress in the last couple of years (others will disagree, I'm sure). Meanwhile, IMO Puresim had been making great strides and seemed to actually have OOTP in its sights. Now, with the complete rewrite of OOTP and being able to get a good look at SI's library of code for CM/FM, I expect that the upcoming OOTPBM2006 will take a huge step forward and once again put itself far ahead of the competition. If you're only going to buy one of these games, I'd recommend you put your money on OOTPBM2006. I'd definitely recommend trying Puresim's demo though (see DH's link above).

If you do a search here you'll find some reviews of the other games and comparisons to OOTP, including one by myself. Just make sure to take the dates of the posts into consideration as some points might be out-of-date.

I was going to reply but he said everything I would have. I think Puresim has improved tremendously while OOTP6, 6.51 etc . is mostly version 5 redone and tweaked. I also think OOTPBM06 will be an entirely new animal and better, if FM06 is any guide.

I was in a mogul sim for about a total of two sims, it was far from OOTP.

Yeah, the only one even close is PureSim. Shaun Sullivan is doing some good things over there. But, for my money OOTP is the best. And if you play any of the other SI games (EHM or FM), you know that OOTPBM is going to blow away all the previous versions and the competition.

I find Puresim's interface really thick and difficult to navigate. I could never maintain my interest in the detail required to start a league. However I'll grant that my time spent on Puresim has been minimal. What does it for OOTP IMO is the simplicity of the interface over the player development algorithm. I quickly found out that fictional leagues were much more satisfying to me. Watching a big time prospect tank or a medium talent 8th round pick become a solid player later in his career is great. I'm not saying Puresim can't do it, I just never got that far.

One concern I have about OOTP BM2006 is the level of complexity may reduce the ease of just simming or just playing the game.

Diamond Mind Baseball is the most detailed and most accurate baseball text sim in existence. It is season-based and stat-based, however. I've been playing it since it first came out. It's great.

Check it out for yourself:

If you are looking for ultra-realistic past-season simulations, Diamond Mind is probably what you need. However, it sounds like you want some "career" mode to go from one season to the next. OOTPBM will likely be light-years ahead of any competition out there in this regard. Heck, it's going to likely be light-years ahead of OOTP6 which is already the best IMO.
