Well, my memory was wrong then. Thing is, for some reason I remember looking up something about Enos Cabell. I also remember the thread I was reading was rather testy. Maybe it was a pre47 mod and instead of ending the color barrier it continued well past that year. That being said, I should probably have just kept my mouth shut.

He’s still technically an active member, I reckon, so I’ll tread lightly after sampling some of his more spirited posts on the forum so I don’t draw the ire of some of our more overzealous mods.

Someone asked if he’d make it on the board these days… Yeah, sure, look around, he’d fit right in. We’d likely have to rename the ‘dogpile’ rule in his honor as folks jumped from closed thread to closed thread to continue to engage him.

Sounds like a rockin’ good time, you ask me.

Edit: Just read through his ending on the boards. What a plot twist at the end!

Naming it All American means it must have been created before 2008 when the phrase "Real Americans" was invented.

Curious how the all white league dealt with white Hispanics.

When I think of “Real American” I think of Hulk Hogan making an entrance.

There were white Hispanic players in MLB; they just had to pass, and kind of extremely pass at that. Dolf Luque was the most famous and he was, for example, described as "fair-skinned and blue eyed". Kenesaw Mountain Landis was a notorious racist and on top of that there was a memory of John McGraw trying to sneak in a black player who passed as, if not exactly white, then light brown as a First Nations person in the early 1900s. Nevertheless, 17 Hispanic players played in Major League Baseball between the teens and the 40s.

Thanks for the link. Amazing stuff. Also the thread is not locked, a good example that if problems are left alone the users will take care of the issue.

This was before face gen so ethnicity just had to be guessed at by name.

Here is a thread where he introduced the league.

But this forums search function is awful

I can't remember the year of the league, but I would say the earlier memory of it being in the 60s or 70s is correct.
And Texas has a long Hispanic heritage due in part it to you know, once upon a time being Mexico.

That was not his only problematic league or post dealing with race and ethnicity.

There is not a lot to it. I can't seem to find the thread where it was first discovered that he had edited out every Hispanic name and was asked about it and he could not really come up with an explanation.
I think he tried to say it was historical, but then evidence was presented that indeed Hispanic players did play in the Texas League at the time of his league.
After that, he just got defensive and claimed persecution which was his MO.

But this is going back a long long time.

20 years this summer!

Does anyone think there should be sub-forums, for those who playout games and those that sim?

No. Game engine is the same for either way of playing. I learn more about the game by reading posts here, splitting would make it inconvenient and inefficient to get to all information. Having the same topics coming up on each board then would lead to confusion and information being lost in the shuffle of going back and forth between boards.

My 2 cents.

No but I think every post about how the game works should specify real or fictional players.
