"Nacho" was only his nickname. His name was Ignacio Anaya, and invented the nacho when he worked at the Victory Club in Piedras Negras during World War II. I met him once.

EDIT: Also, its a good job that Franklin Pierce Adams never had to write about my league - just had a game with 6 double plays in, scored: Mitchum-Keever-Schmidinger, Marker-Mitchum-Schmidinger, Marker-Mitchum-Schmidinger, Keever-Mitchum-Schmidinger, Keever-Mitchum-Schmidinger; Wiseman-Keith-Schonenberger. Not quite as poetic as Tinker-Evers-Chance...
This post made me laugh as well. We had two Bob's on my team (IRL). Both were our number one and number two starters. The ace was "Nice" Bob, and the 2-man was "Bad" Bob.

The Edit section also gave me quite a laugh!

In the inappropriately named category, my game also contains a Mark Martin -- a first baseman with a speed of 2 and a steal rating of 1.

FWIW the original Parisian Bob Caruthers really was a Robert but wasn't from Paris either.

I would kind of like to see nicknames become a bit more era-sensitive. Death to Flying Things was picked up by Seattle nerds and applied to Franklin Gutierrez but I'd say that the real life chances of a modern day character being called "The Apollo of the Box" or, even worse, "Nig" are very, very low.

One that always baffled me belonged to the MVP of my division rival, Herb "Unser Choe" Nordahl. I have no idea what it means.
The real life Unser Choe was Joe Hauser, a player in the 30s. I'm guessing that some person of German descent called him "Uncle Joe" and the name stuck, much in the same way Paul and Lloyd Waner's "Big Poison" and "Little Poison" monikers stuck (the "s" is soft in that, like a person with a Brooklyn accent might say "person").

Despite being nicknamed "Toto", this young prospect is turning out to be a huge find for my club. Hit 31, 121 RBI and .346 last season for me. Had to call him up early due to my starting 1B getting not only injured on opening day, but getting a career ending injury. Worked out well for me despite my negative 1st reactions.

A CEI for a starter on Opening Day? That's rough.

Yeah, but look at his replacement, though. It is both rough, and a blessing at the same time. Lost a lot of depth, but discovered a gem.

So I was checking out the stats so far in stats league (year 2019) and the top pitcher up to 6/16/2019 is none other Mauro 'Duck Hunter' Reyes. He is 16-0. In middle of June... I sooo want to trade for him.

I was so tempted to turn on commish and make his 1st name Mario.

We have a Tyler Moore in the league! I spotted him on the Red Sox (not me). I hope he throws his hat in the air after each home run.

Just found a Jim "Lurch" Hendrix in my league. Only 29 with over 2k strikeouts already. Nickname doesn't really fit, but he is definitely a rock star in my league.

I thought that was pretty obvious......

There's this girl who was in my first grade classroom last year named Mary Tyler Moreno. The most adorable little Hispanic girl EVAR.

Nothing crazy but my star offensive player's name is Jaden Taylor while my staff ace's name is Jaden Dice. What the hell are the odds of two guys being named Jaden in a twelve team league, let alone on the same team?
