One other thing.. when helmets were introduced for the first time (don't remember which version) they came in a patch. They were not in the release version of the game. So there is always that. ![]() If or when they do make it in I hope they also include more than the "double ear flap" model. I'm not to concerned about the face guard, but at least I hope they have right, left, and no ear flap models.

I would like to turn helmets off for historical correctness in early years before helmets. Ruth and Cobb look silly in helmets.

When looking at the player screens and the "Basic Ratings" or the "Percentile Rankings" boxes there is a "+ more" button in the upper right corner of each box. What else do we see if we click that?

OOTP 27’s trailer was underwhelming for me. If the goal was to get me to pre-order, it honestly did the opposite. Nothing they showed felt like a “can’t-miss” upgrade, and without seeing franchise mode in action, I’m not convinced there are any real, meaningful changes.
The player card update is a good example. The new scout accuracy layer on every core rating just looks clunky to me. I’m left wondering what I’m even supposed to be doing with it. Are my scouts suddenly unreliable across the board? Am I expected to scout one pitch and ignore everything else? Does this apply to the amateur draft too? The trailer didn’t explain it in a way that makes the feature feel useful — it feels like extra clutter more than quality-of-life. What I actually want from franchise mode is stuff that changes the experience in a noticeable way: being able to trade competitive balance picks, better minor league development so smaller-market teams can build legit cores and then sell off when it makes sense, and AI behavior that doesn’t feel like I’m playing against the same GM/manager logic running all 29 other teams. Right now, based on what they showed, I’m not pre-ordering. I’d rather wait and see how it plays before buying. |

![]() Franchise Mode has long taken a backseat from direct development, but receives knock-on improvements from changes to the bare game. I know, you know this. Assuming the new stats are on the real end of the spectrum, that's a huge change which trickles down to Franchise. Before that was the dev lab. While you're spot on the flavor of franchise hasn't changed in a long while, they've long said that most people play the current season and that's all. I think of Franchise as the heart of the game, but it's the ratings and stats that are the real driver of everything in OOTP. And those appear to be getting a lot of love this year. Hopefully it helps Franchise play to feel fresher. IMHO they're handling too many modes for the size of the company. And they are stuck in the yearly update model. Franchise Mode changes or overhaul fall way too far down on the rankings to get direct love from the dev team. It is what it is. Don't buy every year, I certainly don't. ),when they occur, you will find what you need to make a final decision. There's a almost a month, plus release week, to make a decision if one wants the discount. Fair approach from OOTP Dev., no need for anyone to feel rushed into buying. One thing I did notice on the player cards were all of the scouting was based on OSA and not your team scout. Perhaps also a newly created game with little time played? IDK. As to how it works we can only speculate until more information is put out.

Though the ability to play how you want is a big part of what makes this game so great! I'm very eager to see the changelist for sure. TBH even if an improved general CPU AI is the main thing I get out of this release, it will be well worth it. |

Are they just cosmetic or would they be useful for evaluating outside of the main ratings?

these stats largely have already been in the game, you can see things like exit velocity and stuff on replays: they're just now sortable stats. the engine backfills things based on ratings after the outcome has already happened. so it can add more character to things, but the ratings are still the ratings

It's chronic... happens way too often. Do infielders every go into the outfield to catch flyballs I haven't seen a shortstop go into short left or in to short center, nor the second base going into short right. Does the shortstop every chase down a pop up along the left field line or in foul territory. Same thing for second baseman on the right side. Last edited by Eugene Church; 02-15-2026 at 09:32 PM. |

Looks interesting!
Here's hoping this is finally the edition that has an option to enforce draft pool limits.... |
