Assuming it is not an actual heart defect, he should be able to play again. I hope he recovers soon and has no long term affects. |

I thought we had a thread on ESPN cuts but I can't find it. So I'll put this here about Mark Jackson being let go.

While I think Doc has been WAY overrated as a head coach, he's pretty much a non-nonsense but easy-going listen, and that's going to be a HUGE improvement over the clown show that was Jackson & Van Gundy. (In fairness, neither were anywhere near as bad when they were doing games separately).

Meanwhile, Cancer is still in Philly, paying the price for yelling at Darryl Morey in China.
The Sixers say they're more interested in #1 picks than Terrence Mann, anyhow. Not that we wanted to move Mann, but I'm fairly sure all our #1s are in OKC, keeping SGA company. (Would have liked to see more than just the one season as a Clipper for him. Still can't hugely criticize the trade; our failures are on Load-Management Leonard and The Chokemaster [Doc Rivers] more than PG-13. But still.) I can't say I enjoy spending all summer waiting to see who blinks on a trade you really don't want to happen. (I mean, work it down far enough and I'd be willing to try, even though I like Russ much better and we have chapter and verse of evidence that they can't play together, but I won't give the crawlspace away, much less the whole house.) |

I'll be honest, I'm not at all convinced that Harden has much left in the tank and even if he does, if the Clips started slow he likes to do the thing where he doesn't try super hard until his current team trades him. He'll for sure do it in Philly if the 76ers don't move him and it's kind of a pattern for him at this point. I'm also still not fully convinced that he isn't just plain on the downside of his career. Like yeah, 20 points and 10 dimes a game is still pretty damn good if not quite peak Harden but I think that even when you get the version that wants to play for you, you're giving up an awwwwful lot on the other end of the court now...

Harden has been on the downside since he & CP3 split.
Harden is one of those players I put in a category w/A.I., Melo & PG13. Superstars who will always say they want a title, but will never sacrifice to get a title.

Watching USA vs New Zealand in the FIBA world cup in the Philippines. The PA system is playing Take Me Home, Country Roads & the crown is singing along.

He reportedly broke her neck. His career might be the least of his concerns.

He will probably be facing substantial prison time. I imagine they could make a case of attempted murder. This is also not the first time he has abused her. Given his other violent incidents in Cleveland, I would say he is a good candidate for time in a correctional facility and lots and lots of therapy. |

I'll never get the bail system. I saw a story earlier this week of a young man wrongly accused of trying to sell a stolen Xbox & he spent 2 months in jail before they dropped the charges.
And this millionaire gets to post bail of just $75,000 for this kind of violent act?

Uh-oh! The League might make Load-Management Leonard play more than once a week! Eek!

While I do not really like the remand system either. I do not feel like someone should have to spend indefinite time in jail until they are convicted of a crime. I also feel like that is a pretty light bail for someone who is accused of a very violent act and with a history of violence. He was ordered to stay away from her. I also hope they took his passport as well if he possesses one. I feel like a good argument could be made that he is a flight risk. But I also do not want to get this thread too far off topic since the mods (rightly) try and keep discussions here directly about sports themselves. I think what most casual fans miss, is that 90% of the time, it is not the players asking to sit out games.
Now with say Simmons and Leonard that might be the case of it being player driven. But most of the time, it is the teams load managing players on the advice of their medical staffs. I think this pressure will more be on teams than on players. Also, players I think having to play 65 games to qualify for some awards is going to encourage less resting. |
