Aaron Boone took Clark Schmidt out of the game after pitching seven innings of no-hit ball. Reason: 103 pitches hitting a spreadsheet red line, and Boone being a gutless robot of a manager. The more managers follow Boone's example, the less likely you will see shutouts and no-hitters and definitely never a 300-game winner again. The game was 9-0 in favor of the Yankees at that point but the disturbing thing is, Boone would have done the same thing if the score was only 1-0.

Seriously, do y'all have an assembly line hidden in the bowels of E. 161st, or something? I'm still scarred by memories of Luis "Arm Care" Rojas, even 4 years after the fact, as the relevant pages of the Mets thread will attest.

Quote:
Tonight's lineup featured Michael Conforto in the #2 hole. Now, Mike's had a nice couple of weeks, but the logic for hitting him there last night was that Conforto lights up Max Scherzer, specifically. And Kevin Gausman ≠ Max Scherzer, in case Rojas-bot didn't know.
(From memory, and so may be slightly paraphrased. But you get the point, I trust.)

Baserunning instincts are dead, aren't they?

I am on my 13th inning of baseball for today's games, and I've already seen four line outs into double plays.

I had my season in OOTP end with one the other day. Down by only one run in game 6 of the first round (of only 2).

Heckling fan brings Ketel Marte to tears on the field. Fan makes references to the death of his mother in a car accident.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

I'm tired of fans thinking players are just computer pixels on a screen. We never going to get rid of j@ck@$$3$. But we are never going to put dent into the problem if all we do is kick them off of the field. Imagine if Marte's emotions didn't lead him to sadness, but to rage. Then it looks like Marte is the problem. Especially when we see how immigrants are being portrayed these days? Marte would have been fined & suspended, the j@ck@ss fan would have gotten a pay out in a lawsuit. And everyone would be talking about these particular athletes are out of control. Who knows, his tears may have come from trying to control his rage.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

1st, this fan should be banished, not from CWS games, but from MLB fields league wide.

Next, this fan should not remain anonymous. Just as Marte's reputation could have been tarnished forever if he acted the wrong way, this fan's rep needs to be tarnished because he DID act in the wrong way. Sure, we don't want this man to get overrun with callers aiming to give back what he gave. But you know what that is called? CONSEQUENCES. I don't condone going tit for tat, but then again, you reap what you sow.

He's starting to come around to the idea that we should respect one another. We should be so proud of his growth.

But no, I agree, that was far far beyond what is acceptable fan behaviour. I too hope they ban him for life.

The purpose of the HS girl was to celebrate her accomplishment. Not get a rise out of her opponent. The fan's objective was to get a reaction out of Marte.

It's okay. I'm not criticizing the inconsistency. I'm happy to see we agree on something.

FWIW, regarding the fire extinguisher story, maybe you missed it, but they have rules against showboating and endangering the safety of others. And you might ask, "how did she endanger the safety of others?!". Fire extinguishers have really nasty chemicals in them, you should definitely not use them unless it's a real emergency. And people were quite close to where she was letting it off. I'm a decently healthy person, but I have pretty bad asthma. I'd be pissed if someone let off a fire extinguisher for no good reason near me. Now I can understand if a kid or even if their parent didn't know that about fire extinguishers, but they sure should have known about the no showboating rule and if they didn't, then that's on them.

I agree 100% with this. The phrase "anything goes" explains so much of what is wrong with our society these days. Paired with its opposite, "political correctness", the world is truly a hazardous place to navigate.

I have bad asthma. But extinguishers don't bother me. Doesn't invalidate your health situation. Just saying it ain't like 1 out of 10 get sick from it.

Two, she did it in the infield. Not on the track in front of everyone.

With all that, the race was over. Penalizing someone after the competition is asinine. We going to shoot Tech FT's if a player post game cusses out the refs? We going to assess too many on the ice when the winning team celebrates the Stanley Cup? We going to call illegal TD celebration if a player takes off his helmet after catching a game winning Hail Mary?

That ruling was made by a bunch of stuck up w/a fire poker stuck up in a "dark place".

My best guess is he is trespassed. He cannot buy tickets electronically with any account that is owned by him. And any present tickets he has are revoked.

But yeah, aside from putting up "WANTED" posters @ every park entrance, it seems the guy can work around it. But if found out, the police can put him in jail.

I was going to say, "but he can just buy at the box office" and then I realized, that's probably not possible. No bank card, no ability to purchase. I think you can still use cash at the grocery store, but the days of walking up to the booth, saying "one please, upper deck" and forking over two bucks are long gone.

The ****ing NSA can probably tell every time you go to the ballpark. 1984 really was over 41 years ago, wasn't it? Hell, you probably can't even buy a MetroCard without IDing yourself these days…

Coin still gets you virtually everywhere here, if you choose so.

But there's this Financial Audit channel on Youtube that I occasionally watch an episode of, and apparently you Americans really really love to put every $3.50 BS on your credit cards.

+++

Baseball-related, that hyped up duel of Skenes and that Brewers guy with the unprouncable name didn't quite live up to expectations. Skenes got stuffed with four runs in the second, didn't get past four, and took the L, and the other guy was out after five shutout innings because of his strict 6 o'clock bedtime... Neither reached 80 pitches.

Not quite Seaver and Carlton c.1967...
