LOL. That's why I made the post. I can't speak for the rest of the threads with the same name, as I haven't seen them. But now I'm sure you understand why I disagree with the topic starter. Which might I add is a pretty stupid topic anyhow...

Nah, he said what everyone is thinking.

In your case, you decided to be unspecific on the most important thing (league type) but specific on something that you can only know if you're in the league (waivers in game and what not). Plus by asking for mature owners, you eliminated most of the leagues which use waivers. The sim schedule thing is true of roughly 80 percent of leagues.

Mogulchamp..after reading your post...I have nothing bad to say about your content. You put out what you are looking for....and gave the impression you have looked and have not found quite what you are looking for.

While it made be wrong or jaded....the title probably would have made me pass it over without reading it. Please don't take that personal. I only go to the online forums for two reasons....to look for openings for leagues I may want to join or to post an opening for a league I am in. That title is vague and a dime a dozen around here. Its hard not to look at it like "just another one of THOSE posts". If I see a title like.."Does your league have...?" or even "Can't find this type of league." I almost always read.

Even if the leagues I'm in don't have an opening...I still read those because I may know a league that fits what that person is looking for. I try to keep my posts limited to either I'm looking for help or I'm trying to help someone. I have no desire to get into a flame war with anyone, or even debate opinions. I accept everyones oppinion as "their" opininion..and of course I have my own.

We did that with PMs and emails originally, but I generally feel uncomfortable privately asking people if they would be interested in joining. I don't at all want to come off as harassing. I don't think one short email or PM is harassing, but everyone has their own limit and some have zero tolerance. I prefer to just post openings in a single thread a season here so as not to spam, but I'm sure more networking would help.

To be honest, that's usually my first reaction too but then you tell yourself, "well, not necessarily". I definitely think having them answer some app questions helps weed out any lazy people though.

I think another thing that should be said to newbies is, don't be shy. I know when I first came around I was far too apprehensive about jumping in. Then Cooley advertised a cool new league and I finally decided to test the waters and haven't looked back since. If you do have a bad experience though, that's fine. Just quit that league and try another. You're bound to find one that you'll love.

Yeah...that was what it was like when I made my first post in the online forums when I decided I wanted to try the online-side of OOTP. I got a handful of replies and PM's. Oddly enough...looking at my invite PM's...every single one of them our people who are respected and have been around many versions.

It reminded me....I also immediately got warning about Tusso. As a newbie...I was like what am I getting myself into....looking back its quite funny to me.

to revive an old thread that I hadn't seen before, I'll defiantley agree that this kind of thing is extremely frustrating.

Another is saying that they're itnrested.....but they never join....never do exports.....basically become a ghost in your inbox. Quite aggravating.

While I agree that a serious owner looking for a league should make an effort to peruse the forum for openings, I see nothing wrong with making a post stating what you are looking for and that you’re available. Especially if you’re going to take the time to get into specifics as MogulChamp did.Suggesting that someone might be lazy and a bad GM because they post about looking for a league on a Forum that is specifically for that purpose (The Forum Title reads
Quote:
This is the place to post league openings and a desire to be a part of a league.
is beyond my understanding. At anytime that I was looking for a league, I searched through 30 – 40 posts about openings. Sometimes I found what I was looking for. If I made a post about being an experienced GM looking for a specific type league and a Commish thought I was lazy because I made such a post, I doubt I’d want to be in his league anymore than he’d want me. I’d probably consider him lazy as well, since he’s forming an opinion of me based on one post. That shows me that he couldn’t be bothered to check me out as much as he feels I couldn’t be bothered to check his league out. It’s a two way street, especially now-a-days where so many leagues are finding it difficult to keep teams filled.I agree it’s important to find a league that fits you, and that’s certainly a good reason for making a post stating what you’re looking for. Nothing wrong with letting Commish’s check you out. Not every league that has an opening makes a post about it here at OOTP Forums. That doesn’t mean they don’t read the forums. If you’re a prospective GM and make a post about your availability, I would consider that to be pro-active, not lazy.

I am looking to join a league and I have very specific tastes. I see no advantage in posting my "hyped-up" qualifications or my "must haves" for a league. I will just keep checking the forums.

I'd post one of those "experienced GM looking for a league" threads, but I wouldn't want the board to crash again.

Wow, some of you who think that GM's should submit nearly professional resumes for your league need to relax. These are supposed to be enjoyable leagues that people join to have....yep, fun.

If someone sends you an application that says, 'I'm interested in the Rockies. Let me know if they're available', what the hell is wrong with that? Why would someone waste their time writing a prolongued essay about their OOTP achievements and history if they aren't even sure that they'll get the opening???

Honestly, the few leagues that I've been in--it has been the more 'experienced and mature' GM's that end up leaving, while the newer or less 'professional' ones stay and enjoy their time.

Most of you seem to take this 'selection' process way too seriously.

Example:

Commisioner: Hey, can you believe this guy sent me an application with no references, and almost zero experience. All he did was say that he wanted to play in my league.

*laughter*

Commisioner: What an amateur. Everyone should know that you must clearly state your previous experience, hobbies, social interests, favorite color, exact time availability, names of previous partners and at least two complex Calculus problems with subsequent answers.
