My problem is that I am so engrossed in my fictional league that even though there are so many tempting ways of playing OOTP, I just can't tear myself away from the W.P. Kinsella League to try any of them anymore. ![]()

This x 100. I was drinking a beer with my neighbor and when it turned into a few beers I pulled out my phone and had 2 pizzas delivered to my house in a little over 30 minutes along with chicken wings, bread sticks, and a 2 liter soda for the kids for about $40 with tip. That lasted all of one night but I will get 1,000+ hours of OOTP time running multiple set-ups, sims, and countless more hours on here. OOTP is the easiest no brainer buy every year.

Yeah I still pay the $36 or $40 or whatever because I get waaaay more bang than that for my buck over the course of a year and at this point they could come out with 4 or 5 iterations with nothing new at least before I would consider it even. And it does seem like every year I’m a bit more impressed by everything, so there’s that.
I do have to say that this is like 100% the flip side of people being like “oh yeah? OOTP always does these flashy improvements but where is the improvement on the gaaaaaame?”. This year it appears that they literally rewrote the simulation engine from the bottom up and now we’re getting “I don’t see anything new so I’m skipping this version”. To each their own I guess but don’t come complaining when stuff like what they did this year takes a back seat to a new, sellable feature…

I regret buying 22 as I have less than 20 hours in it. It did not feel different than 21 which did not feel different from 20 which did not feel different than 19…
This year will finally break my streak of buying every version since 5. I am not here to gloat or talk bad about the game. But just be honest about how I feel. I consume less baseball than ever and OOTP just does not engage me anymore. I will stick around and ever so often see what is being done with the series. But every year I play less and less and last year was to the point where it was a wasted purchase. I don't begrudge anyone still enjoying the game and pre-ordering on day 1. But the lack of progress in things that I personally care about makes it not even worth creating a league anymore. |

Yes but the new 2022 MLB rosters may not be totally up to date and the only way you will get them is by getting the future updates. If you don't wait you will be committed to the rosters that you started your franchise with.

I for one am waiting until I get some more information after the beta release tomorrow on what these new features are or are in actuality.
For me specifically 1- Does facegen faces now appear in the 3d game. Will the face of Mike Trout or my fictional players be coming to bat or pitch in the game or are the faces of the actual players still generic? That is a big one for me from the standpoint of next level of imursion. 2 Have historical ratings for players changed? If so how and what to batting pitching and fielding actual values now look like. 3 How has the game engine changed? why did it need to be changed, ie what was the main thing wrong with the engine being used in 22 21 ect that needed to be overhauled? When I get some info on that hopefully tues wed then I may very well take the plunge and upgrade to 23. |

Then tell us more about how the simulation engine was rewritten or improved. There have been a lack of ANY flashy updates this year. I don’t know if it was due to the lockout or the new owners. All I know is I won’t be rushing out to buy this year’s version. |

If someone wants to buy, that’s fine (yes I preordered a couple weeks ago like I always do). If someone decides not to buy or if they want to wait for whatever reason, that is fine also.
Just because I (or we) have some questions about the game,DON’T ASSUME we haven’t already or won’t buy the game! |

Great question. Every year it seems one of the features of the newest version is a "complete overhaul" of the game engine or "now more realistic than ever!". My first question always is, "What does that mean?" Your #3 is the same question, but a lot more detailed. I agree - what was broken or not up to standards before this change was implemented? Without real details, it's just marketing, and ultimately meaningless.

I pre-ordered as I always have and always will… but this release has been really weird. I feel like there is no hype around it and not much information has been released on the features. I know they have a great track record, but feels weird this year.

Seeing all those discussions,I started to realized that the fact devs don't show gameplay in the reveal, made it looked like ootp 23 would be EFootball of Baseball

I have all the versions on Steam going back to 15. So if I buy it then it will be there. That said I hope that between early release and the Steam release I hope some people can post some videos or live stream and show what's new.
I agree that the information about the new release has been very sparse so far. |
