thanks for the help.

i can get to here now - C:\My Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data

but there is no config file there and i don't know how to create one. right clicking and pointing to "new" doesn't give me an option to create a file as was suggested earlier in this thread.

so i'm still stuck. but thanks a lot for trying. i at least can find the rest of the game now, for whatever that's worth (not $30).

You should be able to right-click -> New -> Text Document. This creates a text document in the folder, and upon creation you can name it. When you name it ("paths" I think, but you'll have to check to be sure that's what it's supposed to be), don't attach an extension to it. Then when you double-click on it to edit it, it should ask you what program you want to use to open it ... scroll down to the bottom and select either notepad or wordpad. Add the necessary text. Hit ctrl+s, then close the document. You should be good to go.

No, that wasn't the directory I meant. See my second post:

Quote:
%appdata% is short for:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data

Alternatively, you can look in explorer at:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\config

Explore to that directory, open up app in notepad and make the change to the file mentioned in the post.

Note that "Administrator" may be a different user name on your system.... it will likely be whatever user you used to install the game.
Alternatively, C:\My Documents\Application Data\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\config

thanks getch, but i don't have a Documents and Settings folder on my c drive nor can i find a Application Data file anywhere. but i did find what is at least part of the game at the address i cited above.

so i tried the face gen disable again per billethius. at that i address i made a file and named it "paths" and edited it to contain the line "disable_facegen" and on the line below that i put a "1". but it still does the same thing (won't load). so i made a folder there called "config" and put that file in it, no change.

so, i was wondering how or where i find out whether "paths" is the right name for that file. and thanks for the time and help.

The %appdata% folder HAS to exist on your computer *somewhere*. I on an old OS (2000), so the actual name of the folder may have changed in different OS's. FYI, I realize now that it is not under My Documents, I was wrong about that in my earlier post.

What happens when you click Start->Run, which brings up the Run box. Type %appdata% in the Open prompt and hit enter. Does it bring up Explorer viewing the folder? If it does, you should see a folder Sports Interactive, which you can use to navigate to the config folder.

Let me know, and let me know what OS you are on.

You have to set your computer to show hidden files to see the Application Data folders.

when i enter "%appdata%" into the run box i get a message that says it can't find the file. i'm running windows 98se. when i use explorer or my computer to check out my sys i don't see any of those folder that are bing talked about. again, the previous version worked on this system.

tree58, in the System requirements it says

PC - Minimum: Windows 2000/XP/Vista

It should work on Win98SE, too. But we've not tested it, and we don't support it.

To disable facegen, do the following:

Open your folder "My Documents" and look for the folder "Sports Interactive/OOTP Baseball 2007/data/facegen"

Rename that facegen folder to for example facegenX

Start the game.

Another idea is to wait for the patch which will shortly be released. It fixes several Facegen problems. Probably it works on Win98SE then. And the patch will also bring a "nofacegen" command line parameter to disable Facegen that way:

- Right click on the link which you use to start OOTP (probably copy that link before you do this)
- edit the command line. Add nofacegen so that it looks like this:

"C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\ootp2007.exe" nofacegen

- Close, save, and try.

To get a refund, contact marc.duffy@sigames.com and send him a link to this thread. But frankly, there has been a demo of this game from day one to test whether it works on your computer and it officially doesn't support Win98SE, so I don't know what he will tell you.

We have a rule in Tech Support that says that requests that have gone more than 3 days awaiting a response from the customer will be closed. This thread fits that bill, so I'm going to go ahead and marked this issue as "closed."

If you disagree, please let us know, it's no problem to re-open this. It's an administrative thing we do to try to ensure that only active issues are being researched.

Thanks very much!
