Game Locks up while loading

This is getting really old now. Two days and several reinstalls later and the game won't even load. Anyone know what might be causing this?

Every prior version of OOTP has worked perfectly fine on this same machine.

It just locks up and up pops the Windows error report message. This really, really sucks.

Have you tried following this thread and disabling facegen to see if that's the problem?

What graphics card do you have? A lot of people have had success just by updating their drivers.

Edit: And here's a post that shows which graphics cards are known to work with facegen...

Disabling Facegen, updating drivers, reenabling Facegen

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX 400. However, after following the instructions in the thread regarding this problem with Facegen, I was able to get the game to load and get rid of the Windows error message (Windows IE needs to close).

Then I attempted to update my drivers online, and thought I did that successfully. After undoing the earlier steps (the renaming of the Facegen file within the Data file and disabling of Facegen), I was able to run the game with the Facegen feature. However, my system still shows that I have the same graphics card, but I guess that is the case, even if I did update the drivers on the NVIDIA website. I not really a techie when it comes to graphics cards, etc.

Hopefully this will help others with the same problem.

Now for some serious league formation!

I also have a NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX 400. Updated driver. Windows 98SE. Last years version worked fine.

When I double click the short cut I get:

OOTP2007 caused an invalid page fault in

When I tried to disable FaceGen the config file that i cut and pasted from the post giving the instructions for this, it said it couldn't find the file.

Been waiting too long to play already. Please advise.

I can't get this to work. Last years version still works. I read somewhere that if last years version worked on your sys, then this years would work. It doesn't. Can I get my money back?

If the file doesn't exist, create it. That is, right-click in the folder and select New -> file. Type the name as app, Then add the line to it as the thread above says to do.

Thank you very much for the help. But, when I go to c:\program files\sports interactive\ootp baseball 2007\data\config, there is no config file there.

And when I right click in the data folder, then point to "new", my choices to make a file don't make any sense. I can make a new folder, a shortcut, some document files, Excell worksheet, etc. The only realistic choice I have there is to make a notepad text document file. So I did for the hell of it. Still when I open the start menu and a click run and enter the address preceded with the %appdata% (which i have no idea what that means), it says it doesn't exist. This doesn't make sense to me anyway. Why would I be creating a file in order to disable it? Forget that question, I don't really care, I just want to be able to play this damn thing. The only thing I see in the data folder at the above address is a few image files, a text document titled changelist or something, and a fonts and skins folder. I can't figure out how to make the file. And I don't know what you mean by "type the name as app". What the hell am I doing wrong?

You're looking in the wrong place. Read option 'c' from the link posted above:

Quote:
1. Open the Windows Start menu, click on "Run", enter %appdata%\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\config and hit Enter. This should open a folder with some config files in it.
2. Open the "app" file with Notepad or another text editor.
3. Look for the line that looks like this:

disable_facegen
0

4. Change the 0 to a 1, and save the file.

If you're not interested in being helped by the tech support forum, why even post here? It would have wasted less of our time if you'd have just contacted Marc directly.

i didn't know i could contact Marc directly. btw, who's Marc? can he tell me where to find the config file? or why i would need to create it only to disable it? why wouldn't it be there in the first place? or if this thing will even actually work on my machine, like it was advertised?

i am interested in being able to use what i bought.

i explained what was happening when i did what the thread concerning disabling the facegen said to do. you said i was looking in the wrong place and to look at the thread again. thanx. big help. i've already looked at it a dozen times. i said i don't know what %appdata% means. is that part of the address? or is it a command? maybe i need to know this to decipher what ever it is you're giving hints about?

i've downloaded this twice thinking maybe it got corrupted during that process. no change. is there a limit on how many times i can download it? if not, i'll try that again as the first time i downloaded it i used a download program that speeds up the process. the second time i didn't. no change.

i've uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times. no change. there's not much in the data folder. it doesn't look like the last version at all. there should be more there, unles it is somewhere else. is it? if so where? i already know i don't know where it is, if it is somewhere else.

believe me i'm not posting here for the fun of it. i don't have time to sit and read through all this crap. and i don't like having my time (or money) wasted either.

i've bought every version since 03 or 04. was never sent a discount notice until this year. i've helped you sell two other copies besides mine every year. i've helped those people get up and running every year. i probably could have peddled a few more copies for you, but didn't want the hassle of having to help them make it work. two others was enough.

you produce a good game. the trading enhancements and the expansion year stuff alone would have been worth the price of a new version. hell i'd pay twice what i had to if the frick'n thing worked right out of the box.

%appdata% stands for the "My Documents" directory. Since the name of the actual directory is customizable and not necessarily "My Documents" for everyone, %appdata% is meant to stand for that. Maybe in Vista, %appdata% actually means something, I don't know. But for your purposes, unless you changed %appdata%, it's likely the C:\My Documents folder.

However, I don't have this config directory or file that is mentioned in step c) of the "How to Disable FaceGen" post in my OOTP install either. I am trying to do some investigation to get to the bottom of this, but we may have to wait for someone more informed to chime in on this one. I'll see what I can find.

Scratch that, learned something today... %appdata% is short for:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data

Alternatively, you can look in explorer at:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\config

Explore to that directory, open up app in notepad and make the change to the file mentioned in the post.

Note that "Administrator" may be a different user name on your system.... it will likely be whatever user you used to install the game.
