Annandale in June
The Atom Smashers looked forward to this month: Annandale had a chip on their shoulder as they played Waffletown seven times in June - Waffletown was the team that knocked the Atom Smashers out of the playoffs last year. And those losses still stung. However, revenge was on the menu as Annandale took three of four in the first series, and swept the second three-game series. I think after this month we're ready to move on from that grudge. Being a team built on defense, Annandale expects to win a lot of close, low scoring games. The surprising aspect of this season is that our batters seem to have caught fire. Newcomer 70OVR George Vukovich is leading the way with a .333/.383/.453 line. 78OVR Dom Dimaggio ("the other Dimaggio") is right behind at .280/.337/.458. Maybe there's something in the water? Heck, even 67OVR Larry Bowa has an OPS of .750! Our pitching is doing great - good pitching supported by great defense makes the pitchers look good. 77OVR Juan Marichal, who came to Annandale at the end of last year, is 8-3 with a 3.46 ERA. 78OVR Fred Newcomer, (uh, who's also a... wait for it... newcomer!) who came to Annandale at the start of this year, is also 8-3 but with a 2.74 ERA. Our starting pitchers kindly thank the infield staff for their attention to groundballs. Give a bit shout out to 82G Rico Carty, who's just arrived to the clubhouse. Rico's going to be splitting DH duties with Julio Franco and will eventually take over DH full time. Given the defense focus of our team, we have confiscated his glove. Annandale's going to have a busy month as we play the Puppies 6x, the Road Dogs 3x, and the Gutter Cats 3x. It's an animal-filled month! I hope we've got our rabies shots up to date. That was a horrible stretch. My team struggled mightily in June. The calendar has turned and hopefully we can get it back going in July.

)still a bunch of games to go, but not holding my breath... seems like once it's decided your team can't hit worth a darn, that's the way it goes for the season... might focus on cross-training some positions the rest of the way (one recent pickup, Johnny Pesky, is already up to 60 rating at 2B after a month+ of play, after starting at 0 at that position) |

Asheboro is in the same boat. A .417 winning % against Our League teams and a .607 winning % against the rest of the league.

Funny but not surprising!
For a consolation prize, I will give you the top two DHs from my ranked list of DH candidates. Carty was ranked 7th and was the first one I could realistically afford. My ranking system is, however, proprietary! These guys are all 3.5k PP and up, and I was looking for someone around 2K. 89G Bagwell 5-10k 86G M Ordonez 3.5-5k |

Not a NYR fan. I'm probably the world's only Chicago Blackhawks, Texas Rangers, and Tottenham Hotspur fan. All picked up at different times for different reasons. Live near none of them. |

Is Annandale Taking League Name Literally?
The Atom Smashers are rapidly turning Our League into their personal Large Hadron Collider, putting increasing distance between themselves and the chasing pack. When asked for reaction to his team's performance in the loop, Annandale fan club president Bose Higson replied, "We're lovin' it. It's our league, we own it, so far."

As previously stated, RL has intervened, and further updated standings for the other Our League races will be posted later tonight or tomorrow. Sorry.

July was a good month for Annandale:
Annandale @ Battery Point: The pitching mound was a revolving door as the Atom Smashers took two of three from Battery Point. The first game featured a slugfest won by the visitors 13-10. Annandale scored three in the eighth to tie the game and three in the ninth to seal the win. George Vukovich (.333/.381/.456) went 2-5 with 2 RBI to lead the attack. The Knuckleheads took game three on the back of Chris Speier (.285/.391/.492), who went 4-2 with two homers to lead Battery Point to a 6-5 victory. Annandale @ Palolo: There was not much puppy love around as Annandale took two of three from the Puppies. Max Scherzer (10-4, 4.37 ERA) pitched a gutsy game in the first match, leading Annandale to a 6-5 victory. The third game saw the Puppies fight back, winning 5-4 despite only garnering five hits. Bartolo Colon (6-5, 5.25 ERA) pitched a fine start for Palolo and Steve Howe (4-4, 23 SV, 2.09 ERA) shut the door on Annandale for the save. Annandale @ Asheboro: The Road Dogs played host to Annandale and took two of three from the visiting Atom Smashers. The second game of the series was a seesaw battle that saw Asheboro score a dramatic walk-off 5-4 victory thanks to a clutch home run in the bottom of the ninth by Kal Daniels (.267/.362/.476). Jim Hughes (5-5, 7 SV, 5.93 ERA) blew the save but got the win. Way to go Jim! Annandale picked up the third game in the series on a pitching gem by Max Scherzer, who continued recovering from a rocky first half of the season by picking up his 11th win.. Palolo @ Annandale: Who let the dogs out? Nobody! Annandale returned to friendly ground and swept Palolo in a three-game series.Fred Newman (9-4, 3.01 ERA) and Pedro Borbon (3-4, 2 SV, 2.61 ERA) combined to throw a shutout in game three of the series as Annandale drubbed the Puppies, 9-0. Cooper @ Annandale: The Gutter Cats came to town, but the home team played a poor host and took two of three. Cooper won the first game 3-2 as Chien-Ming Wang (7-8, 5.71 ERA) pitched a great game; Charlie Kerfield picked up his 26th save. The Atom Smashers took game two 2-1 as Juan Marichal (9-3, 3.48 ERA) used his high leg kick and dazzling movement to bedazzle the Gutter Cats. That's right, they were bedazzled. Marichal allowed only six hits and one walk over six innings. Our August schedule: Annandale @ Waffletown 3x Waffletown @ Annandale 4x Annandale @ Cooper 3x Shasta @ Annandale 3x Annandale @ Asheboro 3x OMGPuppies update: Rico Carty is hitting .370/.462/.519 in 18 games.

![]() ![]() I would be interested in placing the Sanguine Classics, manager name: Sonchell, in the league, When my 3rd team (also FTP)can get inside the roster rule I may add them to help fill. They are close when I can earn enough pp to finish the roster. So, I will need the friend's list. Edit: My last team is not as close as I thought.

I may look to join this in the future. I'm in entry pool at the moment, but I'm building an NL East theme team. Still have a future legend and a few live players to replace, but once I get there this would be something interesting to do.

So Battery Point is rebuilding... selling off our top brass (like the 95 Chris Speier, already departed is the best player from my initial six pack opening --- the 85 rated Sheffield --- I am shedding a tear on that one) and actually moving towards a "team focus" rather than just buying the best players possible. As a result, we might be lying low for the rest of this season and next, down here in the bronze leagues... but when we are rebuilt, watch out!!!!
