Pretty sure a simple step-off (without a throw to first) counts as a disengagement. And you are allowed two of those. So if a pitcher steps off once (no throw over), and then throws over later in that same plate appearance, that's two. The next disengagement violates the rule unless it results in an out... that's my understanding anyway...

Only thing is, the longer anything is done the more entrenched it gets. As much as I dislike it, I don't think we're ever getting rid of the ghostrunner. And the same will go for this. If there's anything we don't like about it we better hope they adjust it this season. To their credit, they did tweak a few things at the end of ST, but nothing to do with end of game. And I don't believe them for a second when they say that now that players are used to the clock that we won't see a pitch clock violation end a game like it did that Red Sox-Braves ST game. Sooner or later, it'll happen.

One of the reasons I watch less and less baseball and American football is because of the length of time with nothing happening. 3+ hours for 15 minutes of action isn't worth it. Cut that back some, especially with baseball, and I will watch more. Very few things in life are cut and dried, but tend to be gradual and push into gray areas. People laugh at advertising because they think in black and white terms. No, you don't see an ad and immediately think "hmm, gotta have some of that", but ads shift perceptions of products and increase sales. Entertainment works the same way. If I have a game on, there is not a magic light that goes off and says, "it has been 14.62 minutes since anyone actually did anything that was entertaining to watch, I will change the channel now". It is more that a game is on, my wife and I are eating or talking, and if the game is losing our interest, it is more likely that we will decide that is enough for tonight and switch to something else. With streaming, hundreds of channels, not to mention doing things on our phones or on the internet, we have so many more choices now and in most cases it is much easier to have people lose interest and switch off than it is to get them to switch back on.

According to lip reading, it looks like Manny Machado was ejected because, according to the umpire, "he called me a douchebag".

This is a homer take. But Brandon Gaudin is a really good play by play guy for his first year.
And it took me until today to realize something else. My son was off his tablet and watching a game with me and he picked it up in the first inning. “Dad, that is the Madden guy!” “What?” (Me very confused) “He is the voice in Madden when you play games” Sure enough, he has been a Madden announcer for several years now. He is good so far! And he dropped this nugget in only his second game. https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/co...e_bases_three/ That is some pretty serious confidence in your job security. |

) As a Dodger fan, it was pretty hard to root for him during that half year he spent on the team, and it was very easy to bid him adieu aftewards...

I wonder how long we'll be able to say that he's the only one to get a pitch clock violation both on the mound and at the plate in the same game. Methinks probably a while... |

The A's reported 3407 in attendance Tuesday. Most AAA teams draw better.

My son and I are going to see the Hartford Yard Goats v Bowie Baysox tonight. AA game. May have roughly twice the paid attendance of yesterday's A's game.
