I run Win98SE and SB Xgamer, up to date drivers and it started crashing with 6.03 when I installed DX9.0c. Still crashed with 6.1 and 6.11.

Yeah, for me thats when the crashing started (6.03). However, it wasnt as bas as it is now. I can't even play with sound on anymore (during the games).

I'm one of those seemingly rare (20%) players who hasn't experienced this problem. Recently installed v6 (with, I assume, all latest updates) and started a new season of a solo historical league which I began a few years ago in v4. I play out all "my" team's games from the 6th inning on, all sounds on, and am now in mid June without experiencing a crash.
While following this thread I've naturally wondered why I'm immune to the bug. On reflection, there's only one thing I do differently than others describe in the posts - I never sim the other games while playing out mine, always wait and sim the rest of the day's games after my game has concluded.
Not computer savvy enough to know if technically this might cause a difference, but on the off chance that it does and could ease others frustrations, I throw this info into the hopper...

Never hurts to mentiong something like the way you sim your games, you never know it might be the right answer to the probem. However, I don't think it's the cause in this case. I also have not had the crashes and the other teams games sim at the same time I'm playing mine.

Hmm, I'll test this out tonight. I can see how this would cause a crash. The sim may be trying the generate alot of info & with the sounds on it may be too much at one time. Thanks for the feedback & info. I'll let you know how it went.

How do you do that, it's not in the sim options is it?

No, I think it's called the Game Options screen... the first one after you hit "Play" on a game, where you can decide whether to control the Offense / Defense / Substitutions / Baserunning for the teams, what park to play in, etc. The last option there is Out Of Town Scoreboard, and if you turn it off, it won't sim the other teams' games in the background while play.

Well I tried and tested this but I still crash. In fact, it crashed on the first game. However maglie, I appreciate your input and thanks for at least trying and giving us your feedback. Hopefully we'll figure this out soon.

I just wanted to say that I used to have this experience, but since using JB's ideas I've been able to avoid it completely.

Hmm, see I have to but they still do not work for me. The only way I dont get a crash is if I have the in-game sound off.

So what JB idea did you use to apparently fix this problem? Was it the download of 9.0b from the link he provided? I thought that was refuted rather than confirmed. Does the downloaded b stay there or does XP overlay version c again?

Hopefully we are getting somewhere on this. I am disappointed that we can't get any involvement from the powers that be though.

I have yet to find a fix. I have tested this with alot of combinations.

SP1 with directx9.0c
SP1 with directx9.0b
SP2 with directx9.0b
SP2 with directx9.0c

I also did a complete reformat of the HD and it still doesn't work. I have put alot of work into this.

The only way I have gotten it work (no more crashing) is by turning off in game (play by play) sound.

Well you technically can not uninstall directx, no matter what version. However, there are 3rd party tools that can uninstall it. However, as I have always said, this is a directx issue BUT it does not matter what version of directx it is, you will still crash (Directx 9.0 all the way to 9.0c)

I also wanted to say that I came up with a new sound mod for the game. New play by play sounds for bats, catches, intros, rallies, ect. I created this before I started getting all of these crashes (right before 6.10). I hope one day I can release this mod so that we all can enjoy it.

Deitrus, while working on your sound mod, did you come across a bug (or better yet, a fix or workaround) where the "fouled off" sound is played when a 'no doubt' homerun is hit? (Not the "back, back, back" variety, but the ones that go "off the moon" or are "headed to Hawaii", etc.)

It's a very annoying disconnect when you hear *dink* as the announcer says "THAT... BALL... IS... GONE!" ... even worse than "The Cubs is 17-14 at home..."

I my case, all I had to do was remove the menu animation & interface sound. This allowed me to keep the in-game sound in exchage for a little clicking - an easier trade than Einar Diaz for Travis Haffner (thank you, Texas). It made little sense to me, but God/Markus moves in mysterious ways.

Just to add another data point here... Under XP SP1, I installed DX 9.0c and OOTP 6.11 crashed in two out of three games played (in a test league, momma didn't raise no dummy ). Then I used System Restore to revert to DX 9.0b and played three games with no problems.

I don't have the guts to do the same with SP2, though.
