FWIW, I'm running SP1 and DX 9.0b with the sounds on, and I don't believe I've had an end-of-game crash yet... but I also do one thing a little differently:

I noticed that if I play two games back-to-back, frequently in the second game the crowd noise would be super-loud, as if the game wasn't "hanging up" the audio stream correctly after game #1, so it couldn't moderate the volume in game #2. So... I only play one game per OOTP 'session'. After playing out a game and doing my post-game stuff (waiver wire, minor league report, etc.), I close OOTP and run another audio application for a while (at first I was using Windows Media Player but now I'm running WinAmp) before restarting OOTP to play another game. It seems to prevent the ultra-loud crowd about 95% of the time.

It sounds like a big pain to close OOTP after every game, but it's really not. Just a thought, dunno if it will help or not...

Good find jmm. I also noticed the "ultra hugh sounds" after the first game. Almost as if it were being looped.

This is not so simple a problem as it is being made out to be. There have been quite a few people who've posted in other threads on this problem that they have both DX9.0c and SP2, and never crash with sounds on. There's some variable we all have in common that works together in conjunction with DX9.0c to cause this, and unfortunately we've been unable to figure out what it is. And if we cannot figure out what is causing the problem, Markus cannot reproduce the problem. And if Markus cannot reproduce the problem, he cannot fix the problem.
For quite a while everyone was trying to claim it was a SoundBlaster sound card and SP2 problem, and during that time I was screaming to the 4 winds in every thread that it couldn't be, in much the same way Deitrus has been doing about it being DX9.0, not SP2 (seeing as how I crash and I do not have a SoundBlaster card). So now we apparently have it narrowed down to one particular file in DX9.0..... but what is the other common denominator?

that a big lie if peopel say they have sound enabled and they dont crash.

those people dont play all there games out...it dont happen every game, but it will crash on a certain random game you play out.

if you have either sp1 or sp 2 and window xp and either directx 9.0b or 9.0c and have sound enabled the game will crash on games you play out to very end and right before the boxscore comes out. it doesnt happen every game like i said it random..it can happen on game#4, 20 , #150, etc and it just take one game to ruin your season and you have to start over..

the common file causing this error which shows on the error report is dmusic.dll found in c:/windows/system32 that file is part of directx..

No lie , it works fine for me, playing out every game with sound, and as I said above, the only thing I do differently than most is close OOTP between games.

that the key..right there.....

if you didnt do that, it will crash on random games you play out...

I can refute the consecutive game part. I generally just jump on for one game at at a time. I still am experiencing this more often than not.

I agree, if it was as simple as shutting down between games, I could live with that. More cumbersome than it should be, or has ever been, but I would gladly do it. However that is not the case.

C'mon, man, calling all those people out there who are not having these crash problems liars (and they are the majority) is over the top by a wide margin.
And stopping between games doesn't work for me either. I have noticed something with my crashes a bit different than what you describe with the loudness, though. Whenever mine is going to crash, it seems as if for the first inning, the sounds are so low that I can barely hear them.... but suddenly between the bottom of the 1st and the top of the 2nd they go up to normal volume.

I agree NC. jbmagic needs to rein in his opinion and learn to edit himself or he might find himself on a short leash.

steve been saying all along he never had a crash problem, but we find out recently he plays with sound disabled...

Well, I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you jb. I have xp sp1 directx 9.0b and have played 3 1\2 seasons one game at a time with sound enabled along with 3d.

I have had NO crashes period.

The only crash I've ever experienced with oopt was v4 exactly 54 games into the first season I ever played. Lost it all and learned the valuable ootp lesson
backup often especially if you are playing them all out one at a time. I back my league up now every 5 games so the most I can ever lose is one turn through the rotation. I also backup using a four folder system just in case an error would sneak through and ruin the backup.

I do hope this gets resolved for those of you that have the problem.

Over the last 2 weeks, I've played over 40 games in one of my leagues (played out each game in full) and in another league, simmed through several seasons. Both with sound enabled, and I have not had one crash. God knows how many games I've played/seasons I've simmed since I bought ootp6 back in March, with sound enabled from day 1, and I honestly don't recall having a single crash. Why would we lie? if it were crashing, I'd certainly say so

I'm running XP pro with SP1, dx9c.

Guys I dont think jbmagic meant any harm. I dont think he is really calling everyone liars. Cut him some slack.

Besides, we need to get back on topic.

*I noticed one of my posts was deleted. I apologize Steve for posting that. I should have kept that to myself but I have made some advances. I could PM you if youd like.

I can only speak for me but I'm not jumping on jb at all. As a matter of fact I understand his frustration as I've felt it myself when something doesn't seem to work as intended on my computer, it's just that ootp v6 isn't one of those that gives me problems.

My feeling was only that if no one stepped in to say that they are definatly not having the sound crashes that the thread might leave people looking at ootp to buy with the impression that if they bought the game it was going to happen to them when that might not be true.

While the probelm does exist I would venture to say if it was even close to everybody the board would be absolutly flooded. As it is we are of course hearing from the ones having trouble, and rightfully so, while for the most part guys that aren't having problems aren't posting because it's not an issue to them.

Still hoping you guys see a fix soon

To be honest Sweed, as it sits now the 51 votes are far more than what I expected. Thats why I am glad people (like you) are still bumping this post with comments, news, tests, ect.

I didnt get this in my first season of my league. I think it started when it was version 6.03. At patch 6.10 I started to get crashes. I had to re-start the second season in my league at least 5 times. Some of the crashes hit right away while others took 12-25 games before they arrived ........ and boy, was I P'O'd when that happened.

I just hope that Markus can get this resolved. there has to be a beta tester out there thats getting this (assuming there are a good number of canidates).

Thanks again to all those trying to help.

Guys I really think the problem is the combo of Patch 6.11, XP Service Pack #2, AND DirectX 9.0c

Since I've un-installed Service Pack #2 and re-installed DirectX9.0b, I've had ZERO issues. No more crashes.

Those still having problems, have you tried to do this?

Well, it can't be 6.11, per se, because many of us were having the problem with 6.03..... previos to that, I cannot say, because I didn't buy it until 6.03 came out to fix some of the problems I was reading about. I also had already installed SP2 and DX9.0c before I got V6.
As far as uninstalling SP2 and reinstalling DX9.0b, I haven't tried that, and won't.... as much as I'd like to get my sound back, I still put my 'chine's security ahead of it. Ain't I got screwed up priorities?

This is not the case. I have done numerous tests with alot of different combos. I have done complete reformats of the HD (a few times), tried it with SP1 & directX 9.0b and it still crashes with 6.11. In fact it crashes with 6.10 (just not as much). This is a directx issue as I have been saying for over 3 weeks now.

CBLCardinals, I'm glad your issues went away I just hope mine could too.
