I just saw this thread. Sorry, I would have been able to help sooner. The 40-man roster window is in GREEN, thus ONLY a status window. dragging players to/from it changes their "status", not their "level" (blue boxes).

Thanks Henry. There are some screens in OOTP6 that leave the color-coding undefined. As a newcomer to OOTP I haven't picked it all up yet. This information will help.
