I too did not install 6.02, just went from 6.01 to 6.02a. My end of day now takes over 2 minutes and end of week takes about 5 minutes. I'm on a K566 w/128MB RAM. It's frustrating that it takes over 20 minutes to sim one week compared to about 7 minutes in 6.01, but what's ironic is this might actually give me the justification finally to buy a new 'puter

Thanks Henry and Steve for your responses and for getting this to Markus - appreciate the efforts...

Rather than the actual times, I find the ratio of change to be rather interesting.

In the test, sim times doubled from 6.01 to 6.02; sim times tripled from 6.01 to 6.02A.

Any time you double the time it takes to do something, let alone triple it, I'd expect it's going to be noticeable. Certainly, I'd have expected some sort of increase in the sim time due to the AI having more do do, but I'm not sure I would've expected it to take double or triple the time it used to.

In any case, it is an intriguing situation... definitely something interesting is going on under the hood...

Not true. Direct install of 6.02a has major slowness for me.

There's always a silver lining, lol. Even though mine is running fine, I may just try this out, as well

8 seasons after installing the new patch, the speed is almost back to 6.01 speed. I guess it was just taking the AI a long time to settle on some rosters where it wasn't waiving players every week.

I'm running a 32 team well established ootp 6.00 league on 6.02a and the speed is much faster.......The first few years/new league theory seems to pan out........I think it also matters on how many total players are in your league. My 32 team league is made up of a 26 team real historical player league players.....

Scratch that....it's the number of players that takes so long....even with all human managers it's slow.....the game is slow not because of financials...or waivers etc.......it's something unrelated to that........

I have Windows XP/1.6 GHz/256 RAM and my loading times between days stayed at 8 seconds after the patch.

Applecorey,

"the game is slow not because of financials...or waivers etc.......it's something unrelated to that........"

I think you are wrong on that. If I turn off:

40-man roster rule, waiver rule, minor league option years, rule 5 draft, salary arbitration, and minor league free agents my sim times go back to almost the same as with 6.01.

It is one of these options specifically or a combination of ones in this list which is causing the sim speed difference.

OK, but if you turn all the teams to human it's still slow......the computer isn't looking at any of the financial stuff at that point......i think.

I know this is not going to help or achieve anything, but add me to the list of people where it took at least triple the time to sim. So much that I have gone back to 6.01. Oh well, I will make due for now.

Oh, it is much slower. I just pained myself to read through the 11 pages of this thread before I opened my mouth (figuratively speaking of course). I have loved OOTP since the '99 version. However; the game is going to take a little nap for now. Someone please wake me when Markus posts about the situation. If the speed is just the nature of the beast to get all the available functions in the game then maybe, and I do mean maybe, I'll eventually learn to live with it. I do hope there is some balance to be found somewhere though. Oh, by the way:

Preliminary results based on some short testing... it seems the Minor League Option Years and Minor League Free Agents are the biggest CPU eaters. If any of you could do your own testing by keeping everything ON except those two options and report your results, that would help a lot.

Thanks,

I keep following this with interest but no real frustration because I am not experiencing problems like others are as only so far playing with a 10-team league & a 12-team league whatever slowdown I am seeing is slight enough to be almost unnoticeable.

Why are some apparently not as slowed? Why would September be especially slow?

Like Henry just said, report more results - it might just help out in figuring out what is going on.

...I'm only now appreciating that my machine I built specifically designed for OOTP actually runs it pretty well (I suggest to all those of you building a new computer get 2 hard drives on RAID 0... seeing how OOTP is all about rewriting/reading large files, it really seems to help)

Yep you hit it right on Henry. If I turn off just those 2 settings then my sim time goes back down to 7-8 minutes which is just a little more than with 6.01.

Hopefully that will be helpful to determine if there is some kind of problem or not.

Thanks,

-Darryl

I'm also curious, I have V6 now running on a P2.8-512mb machine and it still takes about 4.5 minutes per month, even if I turn the above two options off. Do I remember correctly that some of you are getting better speeds - and if so - could you state your machine specs? ("IF" your running faster than 5-6 minutes per month with all options ON except the Minor League Option Years and Minor League Free Agents).

Thanks,
