2026 NBA off season thread

Nothing to report. Just getting it started.

But I did want to state another critique about today's game. I've said multiple times I don't watch the NBA like I used to. Mainly because of the officiating. But the number 2 reason is these players are largely boring. NBA used to be about flash. Especially among the ball handlers. If you watch today's rosters, you are looking for skill, not entertainment. There maybe 5 players total who you turn on the TV to see.

Bob Cousy
Pete Maravich
Magic Johnson
Jason Williams
Jason Kidd

Who today would you say reminds you of Magic? Pistol Pete? White Chocolate? Who reminds you of Kareem, Hakeem, Dr J, Barkley, Shaq, Tiny, 'nique or Zeke? There is no flair in the game anymore. Five minutes reading a box score gives me as much excitement as 2 hours watching the game. it's just not fun. Rosters full of cookie cutter players.

I live under a rock and I hate the NBA, but I just found out. The Knicks?! The New York Knicks won?! Well, I'll be...

Giannis to Miami. Miami also receives Bobby Portis and a swap pick in 2030. Bucks get Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jacquez Jr & Kasparas Jakucionis, the 13th pick this season, 1st Rd picks in 2031 & 2033, & Miami's 2033 2nd rd pick.

Bux did pretty good IMO. They got a lot of bricks for the rebuilding project. Giannis is a superstar name that is always hurt come playoff time. Most of those Miami picks I think will be in the middle of the rounds. Cause I don't know how they are going to fill their roster out w/the remaining cap space they have.

And yet, many Cle fans really REALLY wanted to trade Mobley or Allen or both or even Mitchell for Giannis. I wasn't one of them...

Memphis sends Ja Morant to Portland for Jerami Grant & Kris Murray

2 things.......Unusual to see a trade w/0 picks involved. And what are the Blazers going to do w/Ja, Dame & Jrue?

Kawhi getting sent back to Toronto for Brandon Ingram, Grady Dick, 2 1st Rd picks, 2 2nd rd picks & a pick swap.

Don't know what the Raptors think they are cooking. But that is a mighty steep price for an aging veteran who can't play 70 blames a year.

Not really. BI and GD mean nothing to Raptors fans (they would have wanted to get off both of their contracts anyway). The 2 2nd round picks are whatever. The swap probably means nothing, I'm not sure. It's really only the 2 1st round picks that mean something. And while speculation was the trade would probably have to include 1 1st rd pick, plus one of the young guys the Raptors like, this deal might actually be better than that.

Besides, he's still a really good player, had one of the best years of his career last year, and he helped bring them their only championship. Sure, it would have been nice if he never left, but this is good too. The Raptors have a pretty decent team, but what they really needed to take another step was a Kawhi-like player and now they have him. Raptor fans are ecstatic he's back, as they should be. It doesn't automatically put them on the level of the Knicks of course, more moves probably need to be made (or Poeltl needs to bounce back), but with injuries to other teams, like 2019, you never know what might happen. This at least puts them in a position to win another Larry O'Brien.

You could have the right take.

I always say the best ability is availability. I don't like trading a bunch of assets for guys that aren't there enough. As tempting as the talents of Kawhi, Kyrie, Giannis, Ja etc are, I can't build around those talents if their presence is erratic. Those are talents that should be centerpieces, not accessories. And when they are missing, I can't win w/the remaining sidekicks. Their absence is too disruptive. So to me, that is too much given up.

Re: Kawhi

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Can we have SGA back, now?

(Yes, the Clippers traded away the store, including the pick used to take Jalen Williams, to acquire Paul George, but that was at Leonard's behest. He made his signing conditional on the Clippers acquiring George, the local lad [Palmdale] who would obviously never leave home.

Great GM work, Kawhi!)
