Good evening, everyone! We have a new batch of Clubhouse Cards in the shop RIGHT NOW!

Our third edition of Clubhouse cards features Jackie Robinson as a Kansas City Monarch along with a host of other Monarchs, many of whom were his teammates for his season in the Negro Leagues. The top guys got a little celebratory pricing w/the two perfects at 450 stars and Jackie coming in at a cool 90.

Tune into TWIPT tomorrow for some great stories about these guys, some of whom were among the best to do it in baseball during their time! Also, Artifact packs and some of the first Clubhouse cards were also discounted. Everything is live in the shop now!

Mixed Bag Monday - That said... we're moving Mission Monday this week because the original plan changed after last week's shocking news of a passing legend, so I'll have a handful of fun packables to fill today's slot. Earth Day is Wednesday, Nico's birthday is Tuesday, so we'll have some things later this evening for y'all.

WEDNESDAY
Mission Monday on a Wednesday - This week's Mission Monday is moving to Wednesday to allow the art team time for our celebration of a legend we lost this week in Angels great Garret Anderson. We'll have a handful of GA cards including a mission for his top card.

THURSDAY
TWIPT: HOF Plaques and More - This week’s TWIPT will feature packable Hall of Famers in different forms, ranging from Iron to Perfect, including several plaque cards.

The week was originally titled Mixed Bag Mini-Sets but I've got a more unifying theme to bring things together (and not drive EVC crazy driving to put together Guess the Set this week!) and it'll be: Young & Old, so we'll be filling in key positional needs predominantly with Rookies and Veteran Presence cards plus a few others sprinkled in.

This week's LE set features standout veteran performances, a long-held rookie HR record, and an interesting mix of young and old. The 1931 season was only Earl Averill Sr.'s 3rd, but he was already 29 years old. He was under-scouted out west in Washington eventually making the famed San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League at age-24 where he crushed for three seasons (79 HRs, .342 AVG) before joining Cleveland. And despite that late start, he made the Hall of Fame (admittedly by Veterans Committee)!

During his career, he was 10th in WAR, obviously they didn't know that when voting him in, but it does give the vote a bit more credence. If you narrow to his peak (1929-38), he was 7th in HR, 5th in R/RBI, 14th in AVG, 7th in wOBA. So he was definitely a monster hitter and I don't necessarily mind a peak being promoted. I love a longevity based case, but I think there's plenty of room for peak and just ripping 10 straight seasons of 5 WAR (never lower than 4, either), that's really impressive. Only 46 hitters since his 1929 debut have put up 50+ WAR in their first 10 seasons. I included a look at his contemporaries in the 50-52 WAR range during their first 10 seasons.

They came out a little later than I'd like but I wasn't able to get any work done on 'em last night with Spectrum's maintenance outage hitting right during one . LEs will have a 8pm CT drop-dead time. If they aren't done by then, they'll push to Tuesday. 7-7:30pm CT will remain the standard with occasional moves for unforeseen things like last night.

Charlie Condon got a sky-high EYE rate that definitely stands out, especially on a silver. In fact, it's the highest EYE in the game, topping Max Bishop. This was done in response to some discussion on how relatively unimpressive BB rates have been for even the top EYE guys with Bishop's totals really underscoring the relatively modest output (11-12% BB; for context Bishop was at 20% for his career). I think I'm just not using enough of the EYE scale to get those standout BB totals we see from special EYE guys like Ted, Soto, Votto, and Bishop. And 6 pts ahead over Bishop won't fix this, but it's the first step in expanding the EYE range. Could push into the 200s of EYE with one of the mega-studs in the near future. Note that EYE is the only stat I'm making an adjustment like this on.

Mel Almada jumped into this set as the first ever Mexican-born player to play in MLB! He played 7 seasons with Boston, Brooklyn, St. Louis, and his card team, the Washington Senators -- the one that became the Twins. Perhaps he'll pop up elsewhere soon!
