OOTP 26 Public Beta Patch: 26.9.85

We've been hard at work on OOTP 27, but we didn't want to leave OOTP 26 behind us without a couple small last minute fixes.

Use this at your own risk! Please back up important league files before loading them in this beta.

Changelist 26.9.85
  • Fixed some minor league roster AI
  • Fixed phantom players getting added when clicking in team organization page
  • Online Leagues: Fixed some contract withdrawals not processing
  • PT (Fastspring Only) New PP Purchase portal
  • PT: Added clubhouse price sorting
  • PT: Fixed missing roster restriction text

Important info for online leagues: This patch should be compatible in online leagues. Both league members and the commissioner will need to update to fully correct the issues

How to access the beta on Steam:
  • Quit OOTP 26 if it's running.
  • Open Steam client -> Library
  • Right click on Out of the Park Baseball 26
  • Click on "Properties" at the bottom of the menu
  • Click on the beta tab. Here, enter the following code: ootp26betapt
  • Click on "Check code"
  • Open the beta pull-down and select "publicbeta".
  • Close the Steam client (Steam menu -> Exit)
  • Open the client again. It should then download the beta build.
Update Info for our webstore customers: To apply the update, simply download the setup file and install it over your current installation. There is no need to uninstall or unlicense your current copy! However, you should quit the game before installing it, of course. Updates always contain all the changes from previous updates. Saved games are compatible between different versions.

Download link for Windows PC (Fastspring Webstore Version):
Main server: PC Installer
Mirror Link: PC Installer
Here's a PC installer (Fastspring) that installs into a single folder, which is useful for external HDs for example. Or for creating a second test install of the game, so you can try the patch out without the risk of messing up your main install of the game if something is wrong in the patch:
PC Single Folder Installer

Download link for MacOS (FastSpring):
Main Server: MacOS Installer
Mirror Link: MacOS Installer

Thanks,
Matt + The OOTP Team

A few more notes on some of the changes:

For the Perfect Team new PP purchase page, for Fastspring versions (ie. non-steam versions), the change is that when you go to purchase PP, you will be directed to a page where you log in to your PT account, and once the purchase is complete, the purchases will be redeemed automatically to your account. Purchasing in this way you do not need to go back and redeem the key anymore, you should get a notice when you return to your game that the purchase was applied.

For the roster changes, we focused mostly on making sure that prospects were not being aggressively released anymore, that teams will stick with draft picks for longer. We did also aim to reduce some of the minor league churn as well, hoping to reduce the amount of players that are signed and immediately released.

It does some weird things when trying to buy PP on multiple accounts: probably due to the account it's logged in on. Think you need to force a new log in when doing that for the new account.

@Baseballman2K5 - I'd be curious to know if this patch resolves or reduces some of the poor AI roster-related choices you've been reporting.

This is the big thing I'm going to be looking for. The 55 rated relievers in the minors on teams while 45 rated relievers were on the MLB roster is the biggest "fix" I'm looking for in this patch.

Just an FYI, the change list references the old patch (Changelist 26.8.82). I am happy to see one final patch for OOTP 26

Honestly, a cursory look suggests that it has not. I've loaded up CBL's latest rosters and simmed to Opening Day. The Nationals have a young 60/60 SP (Travis Sykora) in AAA while rostering a 45/45 SP with minor league options as their 5th SP. Several other teams are also opting for 45/45 infielders with lackluster defense over 50/50's with better defense.

EDIT:
It does seem that the aforementioned players were eventually put on the roster, as they should have. I'll do some more testing.

I've not checked every team but the mechanics still seem iffy to me.
Were there constant signings and releases each day?

A quick look suggests that there is some minor league churn, however it is mostly 35/35 or 40/40 guys without options being released, which seems realistic to me. I have not yet seen any players entering the loop of sign-release, however I haven't simmed the whole season yet.

The daily signings and releases have not improved at all...and I am seeing more guys than usual on waivers on a daily basis now, which is new. I see it in my long running save and in a test league. A quick glance at my test league's transactions and I already found a player released on 6/8 and then signed by the same team on 6/12.

I am not seeing anything egregious in terms of someone being in the majors over someone a lot better in the minors...although I haven't looked for that much. I also really haven't looked for, as an example, 45 range outfielders playing CF or 18 year olds from A- being called up to start at SS due to an injury. I just haven't had the time to notice that stuff yet.

I'm just tired of the daily signings and releases at this point that seem to be completely random. I've given up on 26

My concern is if this code makes it into 27, it's not going to be any better there either.

I guess at this point once my season is over, I'll go ahead and try importing a copy into OOTP26 and maybe sim out a season to see what happens (I usually play out all my games) - see if I'm seeing what you're seeing or if I'm lucky and it's not impacting my league for whatever reason.

Did you ever upload your league files to the devs to have them look into what might be going on? I know a number of others have complained on the forums, but if this was happening in everyone's league, I assume more people would be posting about it. Just wondering if there's some quirk with certain league setups that causes this to happen more to some than others.

I wondered that too. I have, however, done many other quick-starts to test stuff and it happens in them all. I ran a few after this latest patch and it continues to happen

Jor, do you notice more players on waivers each day? Curious if it's me or not

March - 2
April - 0
May - 4
June - 7
July - 55 (?!)

That July number looks like a lot, doesn't it? Well...

Now let's look at the actual MLB 2025 trades:

March - 6
April - 20
May - 16
June - 14
July - 80 (!!)

Apologies if I miscounted anywhere.

Now what was the problem again? OOTP has too many or too few trades? If anything, it looks like OOTP has too few trades. Is the argument that a lot of MLB's trades shouldn't count for some reason?

FWIW, I used an as default as you can get MLB league.

I don't think trades were ever the issue. It is the constant minor league churn, signing and releasing guys over and over again.

I forget who it was, but I'm pretty sure I saw someone somewhere say there was an "insane" or "crazy" number of trades.

Maybe my tolerance is just way higher than others, but I'm really not seeing anything I think is insane or crazy. Looking just through the Jays txns (since I know them best), yes, there are some questionable txns (purchasing Fisher from AAA one day to optioning him to AAA the very next day before the season even starts, or recalling pitchers from AAA then optioning them back a day or 2 later, but I also understand that if you have injuries and need a guy to be available for a game or 2 then you do whatever you have to do). There's really nothing, however, that would make me stop playing the game out of frustration. I've made plenty of txns myself that would probably look odd to people and I'm sure that if we looked at some of MLB's real life txns that some of them would look really strange too. I think some txns look weird just because we're reading from the bottom of the page up (oldest dates to most recent), when on a single day the order is from top to bottom, like when a guy is sent to injury rehab, but then the entry above that is their activation from the IL.

Anyway, I get it. Different people have different tolerances and some people might be seeing completely different things depending on their league settings, but I just wanted to put it out there that what some might be seeing in their leagues isn't necessarily what everyone will see in their own.
