The Players League, 2025, is beginning.

The redraft is finished. There’s a first-round video out there—some interesting choices. Enough to get a sense of where a few clubs think they’re headed before the games get a chance to argue back.


Opening Day, in real baseball, started in Japan with Dodgers and Cubs. That happened because Shohei Ohtani was on the Dodgers.
That’s what gave those games their weight.

In this league, Ohtani’s in Pittsburgh.


We’re still using the real schedule, so the season opens the same way, but the significance shifts.

Same calendar. Different gravity. That’s worth noticing.


We’ll open the season. I’ll sit with a few games early on, just to get a feel for things, take the temperature, see who shows themselves right away and who stays quiet.

I’ve been sitting with the leagues lately, just watching them move and noticing where they are. This felt like a good moment to pause and mark the ground.

Action Baseball League
Act 1 is complete. The early season has unfolded, names have begun to surface, and the league has taken on its first real shape. Nothing is decided yet — and that’s the point. This is where patterns start to whisper, not shout.

The 1972 season has closed with the completion of Act 4. One full year is now part of the record. The league turns the page and steps into a new opening day, carrying its history forward into whatever comes next.

Perfect Baseball League
Act 1 is underway. The season is young, the league still introducing itself. This is the part of the year where familiarity begins — quietly.

Old Lines, New Season

As we step into the second season of Major Sim Baseball, I find myself less interested in predictions and more interested in patterns. What held last year. What faded. And which lines might still matter now that the league has taken its first breath and is beginning to settle into itself.

Last season in the Eastern League, the Northeast and Southeast Regions told two different but related stories. Indianapolis took the North. Charlotte took the South. Baltimore won 91 games — and still didn’t make the playoffs. That alone is worth remembering.

Now, in Year Two, the league introduces a wild card. Baltimore was good last year. Charlotte and Indy were good last year. That raises a natural question: does the addition of a wild card reward consistency, or does it invite disruption?

In the Northeast Region, New York looked like a division winner early and then faded. That matters. Philadelphia and Boston both appear improved, and with the right breaks, either could step into the conversation and challenge Indianapolis at the top. Whether Indy holds, or whether pressure comes from below, is something I’m watching closely.

In the Southeast Region, Charlotte and Baltimore remain the reference points. Baltimore should be back in the mix. As for the rest — Nashville, Miami, Atlanta — I’m not sure yet. Atlanta made some deals. They may be improved. We’ll see. This feels like a region where clarity will come slowly, not immediately.

Out West, the Northwest Region is where the defending champion lives. Seattle set the standard last year. San Francisco is also a strong club in that region. Denver, though, looks improved — and that has my attention. Whether that improvement translates into real contention is something I’m genuinely curious to watch. Portland? Salt Lake City? I don’t know yet — and that’s part of the appeal. This region feels like one that will reveal itself rather than announce itself.

The Southwest Region might be the most intriguing of all. Four of the five teams finished above .500 last season, including Dallas and Phoenix. Phoenix looked like an early favorite to win it all before fading late, though they still finished above .500. Dallas brings strong pitching and appears to have improved their offense as well. Reggie Jackson is a year older — maybe a year better. It feels like a tough race.

That leaves teams like the LA Stars and Houston — both in the race last year — who may or may not factor in this time around. Houston added a natural power bat, a hitter who doesn’t strike out the way a Dave Kingman type might. Whether that changes the equation remains to be seen.

So I don’t have predictions. I have curiosities.

Do old lines hold?
Do new teams step forward?
Does Year Two confirm what we think we know — or undo it?

The teams will reveal themselves. I’m looking forward to watching how.

Finding the Rhythm

As I settle into the rhythm of observing these leagues, the seasons are beginning to take shape in their own ways.

The Action Baseball League is now moving toward the home stretch—Act 3, the pennant race. With the All-Star Game now in the books, the focus turns to the stretch run and the teams positioning themselves for what promises to be an exciting finish.

In Major Sim Baseball, the season is preparing to enter its second act. June and early July lie ahead, building toward the All-Star Game between the Eastern and Western Leagues. This part of the year is always revealing—teams begin to show who they really are, and the contenders start to separate from the pack.

Players League 2025 is on the horizon. So far, only the inaugural game in Japan between the Cubs and Dodgers has been played, giving us a first glimpse of the league in action. The plan is to move forward into April and begin unfolding the season from there, watching how these current players perform in their new homes and new alignments across the league.

Over in Defending the Shield, the season is still unfolding as well. With the early acts of the season in motion, the path ahead is to carry the league through the remainder of the regular season, determine the champions, and move toward the culminating Super Series, where the season’s ultimate winner will be decided.

Meanwhile, Players League 1946 is preparing to move into Act 2, continuing the unfolding story of that historic season.

Looking ahead, the Premier Baseball Circuit remains in the planning stages. The concept is simple but compelling: a return to the original Action Baseball League, this time featuring real players.

Each league carries its own pace and personality, but together they form a living tapestry of seasons, stories, and moments still waiting to happen. As always, the task remains the same—sit with the game, observe what unfolds, and see which stories emerge as the seasons move forward.

The Action Baseball League is a work of fiction being written by baseball itself.


It is imagination placed inside a structure. It is random number generation filtered through rules, ratings, formulas, front-office logic, player development, injuries, trades, slumps, streaks, pennant races, and most importantly, games on the field.

It is not scripted, but it produces story.

It is not real, yet it lives.

That’s why it’s worth observing.

The Action Baseball League has been explored deeply, laid out as a story from the front office to the field. Its history is well documented.


Now Act 3 of the 1981 Championship Season — its tenth — begins.

The pennant race.

The true test of the story.

This is where teams begin to show what they really are. A lead becomes heavier. A chase becomes more urgent. Pitching depth matters more. Bullpens begin to show wear. Lineups are no longer surprising anyone. Managers must decide whether to trust what they have or adjust before the season moves without them.

The Observer asks not only who won, but why.
Not only what the standings show, but what they hide.

The Action Baseball League is special because it lives.
And now it is time to be present with it.

How to Follow the Action Baseball League


The Action Baseball League is more than a schedule of games. It is a baseball world.

If you are new to the ABL, or if you have seen pieces of it and wondered where everything fits, this post is a simple guide to what exists, where to find it, and how to follow along.


The League

The Action Baseball League is a fictional professional baseball league played through Out of the Park Baseball. The games are simulated, the players are fictional, the teams have histories, and the story unfolds from the results on the field.

This is not a script.
This is not a replay of real baseball history.
This is a living baseball universe.

The games are played. The numbers are recorded. The standings move. Players rise and fall. Teams build, contend, collapse, and chase championships.

This is the Game.


Sim Baseball Vision

Sim Baseball Vision is the broadcast and presentation home for the ABL.

This is where the video coverage lives: league updates, game coverage, playlists, team reports, player reports, special features, and ongoing coverage of the current season.

If you are watching the ABL, Sim Baseball Vision is the main viewing platform.


ABL Playlists

The playlists are designed to help you enter the league from different angles.

There are places to start if you are brand new.

There are multiple threads connected to the ABL world:

The Baseball Observer thread is the media and coverage thread — a place for league notes, broadcast-style updates, schedule guidance, and the broader baseball-world presentation.

There is also an Action Baseball League Prime thread, which gives the first nine seasons serving as another doorway into the league and its presentation.

Together, the forum threads serve as the written record of the ABL world.


The Websites

The ABL also has two league websites available.

The StatsPlus site goes deeper into the data. If you want standings, stats, leaders, player pages, team information, and more detailed league data, StatsPlus is the place to explore.

The OOTP-generated league website is also available. It gives another official league view with schedules, teams, players, results, and league pages directly from the game world.

So there are two ways to explore the ABL online:

How to Follow Along

The easiest way to follow the Action Baseball League is this:

Start with Sim Baseball Vision.
Use the playlists to find the current coverage.

Use StatsPlus and the OOTP website when you want to dig deeper into the teams, players, schedules, standings, and numbers.

You can follow casually, like a fan checking the standings.

You can follow deeply, like a baseball writer studying the league.

Or you can simply watch the games and let the story come to you.


Current Coverage: Act 3 — After the Break

The current ABL coverage is in Act 3: After the Break.

Act 3 follows the league from the All-Star break into the push toward the final stretch of the regular season. The coverage is organized into five scenes:

Action Baseball is the game in motion.


The pitch. The hit. The fielding. The run. The throw. The catch. The slide. The homer. The strikeout. The strategic move before the move.


Twenty-four teams. The best baseball players in the world. A full season of pressure. A Grand Tournament of Champions. And at the end, the Grand Series of Baseball — seven games to determine the Grand Champions of Baseball.


The best of the best.


That is the stake. That is the reason. That is why we watch.


Baseball matters because the stakes couldn't be higher.



But winning is not clean. Winning costs. This game leaves scars.

It began in 1972, the inaugural season, when the Atlanta Kings made the first successful run through the new baseball world and claimed the league’s first crown.

In 1973, it was the revenge of the Rocketeers. Denver made it all the way back to the Grand Series, and this time they survived.

In 1974, Miami — tried, tested, and tired of falling short — rose to the occasion and won its first championship.

The league was underway. Three years strong.

Then came 1975. Phoenix rose from the ashes and took the crown, as the league entered its fourth season — still young, but no longer new.

By 1976, everything was bigger. A larger television deal. Greater fan interest. More money. More pressure. And the city that never sleeps won it all: New York. The Aces soared over the baseball world.

By 1977, the league had expectation. Teams had real fan bases. Money was beginning to flow. The whole thing had turned a corner.

And then Dallas — a franchise with no playoff history to that point — took the league by storm, fought its way into the postseason, and shocked the baseball world.

The Rustlers rustled away the title from the Mavericks.

Houston would return in 1978, only to be denied again — this time by a team bold enough to do it twice. Miami had returned, and Miami had returned victorious.

By then, the league was strong.

In 1979, Houston came back again. Back-to-back conference championships. Another successful run. Another trip to the Grand Series. And this time, finally, the Mavericks won it — their first title in three tries.

Then came 1980. Houston had its chance to repeat. Detroit stood in the way. Seven games later, the repeat dream was gone. The Dukes had taken the crown.



The champion establishes their legacy, celebrates for a week. Basks in success for an offseason. But come February, for the hurlers and backstops, the gloves come out again. Come March, the bats begin to crack again. The spikes get laced up again.

Nobody is satisfied.

Not Philadelphia with no playoff appearances. Not Miami with two titles. Not Houston after three heartbreaks in four years. Not Denver with tournament silence after early glory. Not Atlanta or Phoenix after difficult history.


Everybody wants the same thing.

To win it all.


And winning here means traversing the toughest road in baseball.

So we start with the stakes. Then the tournament. Then where we stand. Then the races. Then the fans. Then management. Then the players. Then the teams. Then today’s game.


Because this is not just a simulation.

This is the compelling drama of baseball competition.


This is the observation of what is already there.

This is the League of Action Baseball.


And that brings us here.

July 1981.

Post-All-Star break.

The history is no longer theoretical. The rivalries have weight. The franchises have scars. The players know what came before them. The fans know what is at stake.

This is the game.
