Welcome to Major Sim Baseball:
A New Chapter in Baseball History

In nineteen seventy-two, a bold vision took shape: to create a league that embraced both the tradition of baseball and a spirit of innovation—a league that was adaptable, dynamic, and truly competitive from coast to coast. This vision became Major Sim Baseball.

What is "NimBLe"?

Officially known as the National Baseball League (NBL) within Major Sim Baseball, the league earned its nickname—Nimble—due to its fast-paced, strategic gameplay and innovative approach to America’s pastime.
It’s more than a name; it’s the essence of how baseball is meant to be played. It’s about staying one step ahead, adjusting strategies on the fly, and creating a league where every inning matters.

The Structure: Four Pennant Races, One Goal

Major Sim Baseball is built on a commitment to the classic spirit of baseball competition.

In the early days of baseball, there were two pennant races, one for each league. As divisions were introduced, there were four distinct pennant races—a format that created more intense competition. However, with the later addition of the wildcard, the purity of these races was lost, leaving the world with no pennant races at all.

Major Sim Baseball aims to maintain the excitement
of these four true pennant races,
each with its own path to glory:

Eastern League of Sim Baseball TeamsDivided into North and South, each division boasts five competitive teams fighting for the right to compete in the League Championship Sim for a true pennant.

Western League of Sim Baseball TeamsWith its own North and South divisions, the West carries its own rivalries and legends.

Every season, only the best from each division will advance, making every game count.

Intense Rivalries and Balanced Competition

In Major Sim Baseball, teams face their four division rivals twenty-three times each—ensuring that division crowns are truly earned. Meanwhile, they meet their league rivals from the other division fourteen times each, creating a balanced schedule that rewards regional dominance.

East vs. West: A Tale of Two Leagues

The East and the West operate as separate worlds—teams will only face off within their league, intensifying regional rivalries and building to epic clashes.
The only exceptions are the All-Star Game and the World Sim, where the best of the East meets the best of the West, creating the ultimate stage for baseball’s finest.

Historically Accurate, Uniquely Dynamic

With twenty teams compared to MLB’s twenty-four in 1972, Major Sim Baseball ensures a deeper, more competitive player pool. The league always maintains fewer teams than MLB, maximizing talent across rosters and keeping competition fierce. Each player is 100% scouted and rated with complete historical accuracy, while the OOTP Development Engine adds a layer of organic variance, making every season a truly unique experience. Player ratings are recalculated every three years, a choice that balances realism and fluidity in a way that dedicated fans will appreciate.

1972: A Historic Beginning

Major Sim Baseball stays true to history, starting without the Designated Hitter rule in nineteen seventy-two. As the years pass, rule changes will be introduced as they historically happened, maintaining a balance of realism and tradition. The inaugural All-Star Game will be hosted in Chicago, paying homage to the original MLB event and setting the stage for future seasons.

Expanding for the Future

Major Sim Baseball will grow to twenty-eight teams over time, with expansions planned for 1993 and 2002. In each expansion phase, four new teams will be added—one to each division—ensuring that the league remains balanced and competitive throughout its evolution.

Get Ready to Experience "NimBLe"

This isn’t just a baseball league; it’s an experiment in baseball history, strategy, and storytelling. As the National Baseball League (NBL), or simply Nimble, Major Sim Baseball offers a fresh look at the game’s past and a bold vision for its future.

Welcome to Major Sim Baseball.
Play the Nimble way!

It's Personal

Sometimes in life, things come full circle.

I’m blessed now to have an opportunity to do exactly what I’ve always wanted. It all began with a game called Coleco’s All-Star Baseball.
Name: 2024-10-30_15-33-38.jpg
Views: 304
Size: 55.9 KB
It was a simple yet magical game—discs placed in a plastic contraption with a spinner determining the outcome of each player’s at-bat. You’d build your lineup with nine discs, representing your team of All-Stars. As years passed and new versions were released, my collection of discs grew. I even began creating my own players from repeat discs. That’s when Danny Rodriguez, my first fictional player, was born—a hero in my childhood Ohio Baseball League, which featured teams from Sandusky, Lima, Maumee, Toledo, Cincinnati, and Cleveland.

The spark for creating leagues and telling stories wasn’t just limited to baseball. I remember a horse racing game I got when I was six or seven years old. It had a spinner to advance the horses, and I imagined keeping track of wins and races, exploring the stories behind each race. It was always about the excitement, the moments, and the human drama that comes with competition.

The journey continued when I was ten years old in 1972. I found an American League schedule, Name: s-l300.jpg
Views: 326
Size: 7.5 KB and that gave me the push I needed to create my own league. I filled it with teams and players—my teams, my stories. That’s what Major Sim Baseball is: the realization of that childhood dream, the return of something deeply personal. And I’m calling it NimBLe, the National Baseball League, a reflection of my lifelong passion.

The naming of teams has always been important to me. Every team name in Major Sim Baseball has meaning, rooted in the spirit of the city it represents. The names are intended to sound authentic, never hokey or forced. Unlike some of the names in Action Baseball League (though that’s just between us), I love every name in this league. It's surreal to be playing with these players again, fifty years later. It’s personal, fueled by my love for the game, for its moments, and for the competition.

For me, baseball is about that crucial moment: the batter stepping in, the pitcher getting the sign, and the pitch that can change everything. It’s about pennant races and pure competition, where the game runs as it’s meant to—no interference, no favorites. I am the commissioner now, no longer managing each team. It’s not about making the right decisions but witnessing the impact of the decisions made by the teams. The thrill is in seeing who steps up when it matters most, just like Toby Harrah used to do for me in those clutch moments of All-Star Baseball.

This time, we start in 1972—with a young Pete Rose, the final year of Roberto Clemente, and countless others ready to make their mark. I want you to see what I see. I’ll make everything available: stats, game results, and more, but I won’t spoon-feed it. This is different from the Action Baseball League universe, which will continue with its own rhythm and videos. Major Sim Baseball, however, is about exploring the real stories of baseball’s past, replayed over fifty seasons.

I am fully invested in both leagues, but Major Sim Baseball is about real players from history and seeing where this journey leads over the next fifty years. It’s a story of real people, real moments, and a love that’s lasted a lifetime.

Let’s make new stories, with the same players. Let’s see what happens.

Major Sim Baseball -- Just the Facts

League Structure

Leagues: Major Sim Baseball consists of two leagues, the Eastern League and the Western League.

Divisions: Each league is divided into two divisions, the Northern and Southern Divisions.

Teams: There are a total of 20 teams, with 10 teams in each league.

Season Format

Games: Each team plays a full schedule of 162 games, facing their division rivals 23 times each and inter-division opponents 14 times each.

All-Star Game: The inaugural All-Star Game will be held in Chicago, with each team represented to ensure full league participation. The event will also feature a Home Run Derby as part of the festivities.

Playoffs: The top team from each division will compete in the League Championship Sim for the league pennant. The Eastern League Pennant winner will then face the Western League Pennant winner in the final championship series, known as the World Sim.

Home Field Advantage: The first World Sim will be hosted by the Western League to balance with the inaugural All-Star Game, which will be hosted by the Eastern League in Chicago. This approach mirrors MLB’s unintended pattern, which began in 1933 with the inaugural All-Star Game. Home field advantage will alternate annually thereafter.

Draft Format

Inaugural Draft: Teams will build their rosters through an inaugural draft, selecting from a pool of real players from the 1972 season.

Order: The draft order has been determined by random lot, but the details will be revealed as each pick is announced.

Team Information

Locations: The teams are spread across major cities in the United States, representing different regions.

Stadiums: Each team has a MLB home stadium, which will be a key venue for their home games.

Stadium Placement: Cities with existing MLB stadiums were assigned to those venues. For cities without one, stadiums were assigned arbitrarily.

Stadium Renaming and Weather Adjustment: Ballparks have been renamed to align with their respective teams, with some retaining their original locations. Weather conditions have been adjusted to match the climate of each city.

Gameplay

Historical Accuracy: The league strives to maintain historical accuracy with real player statistics and team performance, replicating the context of the 1972 season as closely as possible.

Recalculation and Development: Player ratings will be recalculated every three years using historical data, ensuring performance aligns with real-world stats.
Additionally, the OOTP Development Engine will add a layer of unpredictability, creating a more dynamic experience.

Designated Hitter (DH) Rule: The DH will be implemented in both leagues following the historical timeline. In 1972, however, there will be no DH in either league.

Expansion Plans

Future Growth: The league is designed as a 50-year experiment, with eventual expansion to 28 teams.

Additional Teams: In 1993, four teams will be added, one to each division, and in 2002, four more teams will join, following the same pattern.

Colors and Branding

League Colors:The Eastern League is represented by blue, and the Western League by red.

Major Sim Baseball: Exploring the Rivalries in the East and West Leagues

Major Sim Baseball thrives on the excitement of natural rivalries, built around geographical proximity and historical competition. Here’s a deep dive into the league’s rivalry structure, designed to create an immersive and competitive experience.

Overview

In Major Sim Baseball, rivalries are divided into two primary categories within each league:

1. Natural Divisional Rivalries: These are teams within the same division that are geographically close, making for intense, frequent matchups.

2. Natural League Rivalries: These are matchups between teams in different divisions but within the same league, emphasizing regional competition despite division lines.

Western League: Rivalry Breakdown

Name: map NimBLe West League_75.jpg
Views: 385
Size: 124.7 KB

1. Natural Divisional Rivalries (Within Divisions)

The Western League’s divisional rivalries focus on proximity, creating compelling head-to-head battles:

• Seattle vs. Portland: The Pacific Northwest showdown, a classic regional rivalry.

• San Francisco vs. Salt Lake City: Two contrasting cities in terms of geography and culture, adding layers to this budding rivalry.

• Salt Lake City vs. Denver: The Rocky Mountain rivalry, known for its elevation and intense competition.

• Las Vegas vs. Phoenix: A Southwest clash featuring two desert cities with rising baseball ambitions.

• Las Vegas vs. Los Angeles: A battle of glitz and glamour, with both cities representing major entertainment hubs.

• Dallas vs. Houston: The Texas rivalry, bringing local pride into play.

• Portland vs. Salt Lake City (potential rivalry): With similar markets, this could become a regular competitive fixture.

2. Natural League Rivalries (Across Divisions)

While these matchups are across divisions, their close distances fuel natural competition:

• San Francisco vs. Los Angeles: An historic California rivalry, despite the division difference.

• Las Vegas vs. Salt Lake City: Neighboring cities that share a desert culture, making this an intense league matchup.

Eastern League: Rivalry Breakdown

Name: map NimBLe East League.jpg
Views: 380
Size: 96.2 KB

1. Natural Divisional Rivalries (Within Divisions)

The Eastern League has more concentrated rivalries due to its geography, except for Miami’s relative isolation:

• Chicago vs. Indianapolis: The Midwest rivalry, central to maintaining balance in the North.

• New York vs. Philadelphia: A storied battle along the Northeast Corridor.

• Boston vs. New York: The classic rivalry that transcends sports, now a staple in Major Sim Baseball.

• Boston vs. Philadelphia: An old Northeast matchup, intensified by divisional competition.

• Atlanta vs. Nashville: Southern baseball at its finest, with music city meeting the capital of the South.

• Atlanta vs. Charlotte: Another Southern clash, rooted in regional pride.

• Charlotte vs. Nashville: A rivalry that blends Southern hospitality with fierce competition.

• Miami vs. Atlanta: Sunshine vs. Southern charm, bringing together two different styles of baseball.

• Miami vs. Charlotte: The southernmost team vs. the Southern city.

• Baltimore vs. Charlotte: Two Southern powerhouses vying for regional dominance.

2. Natural League Rivalries (Across Divisions)

While these rivalries cross regional boundaries, their proximity keeps them competitive:

• Baltimore vs. Philadelphia: These cities are close enough to spark a rivalry, even from different regions. Baltimore’s move to the South was strategic to maintain a balanced Midwestern representation in the North.

• Baltimore vs. New York: Another compelling matchup, where Baltimore aims to challenge Northern dominance.

• Indianapolis vs. Nashville: Despite being in different regions, these two cities are close geographically, making for a competitive fixture.

3. Strategic Placement of Baltimore and Indianapolis in the Eastern League

Name: NimBLe NorthEast Region.jpg
Views: 374
Size: 32.4 KB

The alignment of teams in Major Sim Baseball’s Eastern League prioritizes regional balance and natural rivalries.

Indianapolis and Baltimore both possess a unique geographical identity, allowing them to be seen as either Northern or Southern cities. For locals in Indianapolis, the city's Midwestern roots align it with the North, yet its proximity to the Mason-Dixon Line brings a Southern connection to the fore. Similarly, Baltimore’s location along the Mason-Dixon Line reflects a blend of Northern industry and Southern hospitality, making it relatable to both regions. This dual identity adds complexity to their placement in Major Sim Baseball, as each city embodies traits of both the North and the South, making them adaptable to either division.

To maintain a Midwestern presence and prevent an East Coast-heavy division, Indianapolis was positioned in the North Division alongside Chicago. Meanwhile, Baltimore was placed in the South Division to foster regional balance and preserve the historic Chicago-Indianapolis rivalry, ensuring that one of the league’s most significant matchups remains a focal point of the season.

Summary

Major Sim Baseball’s rivalry structure emphasizes geographical proximity and historic competition, aligning with the league's vision of creating natural, intense matchups. By dividing the leagues into Northeast, Southeast, Northwest, and Southwest regions, the rivalries are both natural and regionally focused, bringing authenticity to each matchup.
