Viewing History and Shortlists of Retired Human Managers
Hi all,
I just retired my 97-year old human GM/manager persona (let's call him Chuck) after working for 67 in-game seasons. I created a new GM/manager persona in his 30s (let's call him John), assigned him to the team I was managing, and it looks like I'm good to go. Question though - if I want to go back and look at Chuck's illustrious managerial history, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do it. The only way I've found is to go into the "Other Human Managers" menu, edit the managers, and un-retire Chuck. Then I can switch to him as an "active manager", view what I need to view, then switch back to John. But if I leave him un-retired, he'll start getting job offers as I sim forward. So I have to re-retire him each time I un-retire him to view his history! Similar issue for shortlists - John doesn't have any of Chuck's shortlists. I'm probably going to just go through and create them from scratch, but I was hoping there might be a way to export and import shortlists. I could un-retire Chuck, switch to him, go make CSV reports of his shortlists, and then switch back to John, re-retire Chuck, and start manually adding the players to John's shortlists. But not a very user friendly process. So that's what I was wondering - is there an easier in-game way to migrate from one human manager to another and still have access to the old human manager's history and shortlists, or is the solution I've come up with the best way to go? Thanks to anyone who has advice or insight! |

I'm almost in your situation. My human GM is hitting late 80's and I've been thinking about making a change. I was wondering about what would happen to my current human GM's history. From your post it is still available, though hard to get to. Seems like there should be an easier way. I hadn't even considered my short lists.
Anxiously awaiting any answer you may get.

In case it's helpful to others, here's the process I used (this was with OOTP25).

A couple of other things I've noticed about this after doing it:
That first one is pretty frustrating. And the second one is making it hard to know what to go after in free agency (although I can still reference my scout's last "Very High" accuracy scouting report on the player's history. Just wanted to let people know what to expect when they eventually do this. |

I am in complete agreement with you on this. I hadn't even considered or though of this being an unintended outcome of chaing my manager at a certain point in time for realism, until i got to the point in my game where i thought i should retire my 80 yr old manager... and then discovered to my horror all of my lists had gone!! Thankfully i had been prudent and backed up immediately prior to retiring my guy....so now here i am with my old ass 90 yr old manager...who has seen two world wars come and go, and is getting ready to get down with the trippin 60's ( I have Doc Ellis on my team- my 90yr old manger's eyesight better be good to check Doc's eyeballs before he goes out to pitch .

One thought I had was to change the birth year of my current manager. He is 89, so move his birth year 40 years and he becomes 49 again. The option is there on your manager>manager options. I don't think it could/would cause any issues other than suspending reality. I'm not entirely sure how I would feel about actually doing it, but it is a solo game. As an 89 yr old GM I am legendary. I wouldn't be too excited about going back to "unproven". It would be much better when creating a new manager in a solo game you could select your reputation. If I created a new 45 yr old GM I wouldn't select legendary, but it would be nice to be able to be something more like veteran (no idea what all of the categories are). I GM my Cubs and I'm pretty sure if they go for a new GM it's not going to be an unproven one. Carter Hawkins had about 15 years of front office experience and has Jed Hoyer as his boss. I don't think players the Cubs approach are worried too much about the front office. (writing this helps me justify anything I might to in my OOTP universe) ![]() It's all good info to have and I'm glad you started the topic. Whatever I end up doing I won't go in blind.

Just for full disclosure, I can't be positive it's my reputation that is turning off these free agent stud pitchers. We've also had two straight losing seasons after winning a World Series (part of the narrative I used for why my 97-year old "Chuck" should retire) and my owner has changed our team focus to "rebuilding", so that could certainly be a contributing factor to their lack of interest in our organization.
But more frustrating than that, I am still struggling with the scouting accuracy. Even when I request a scouting report on players, the accuracy of the resulting reports are all still showing as "Average" at best. Which is better than the "Low" everyone changed to when I switched to the new "John" manager, but still - why would the human manager/GM running the team affect my scout's accuracy on his scouting reports? Will I ever get "Very High" accuracy scouting reports again? EDIT: I just checked again after simming a few days, and my scout is now occasionally getting "Very High" results from random players in the league - so hopefully as time goes on I'll see that more often. Curious if anyone else who's tried switching human managers ran into this issue with scouting and if there's a reason why it happens or maybe just a bug.
