Big Dumper #46!
I'm not sure if the M's tendancy to underperform against bad teams(i.e. Orioles) and overperform against good teams(i.e. Mets) is a good thing or bad thing, I guess since they'll be playing good teams in the playoffs(Hopefully if they get there) I'll take what I can get. They are a team that could be scary in the playoffs with their deep pitching rotation. |

You probably don't watch the Mets on a daily basis but ...
They are NOT a good team.

Guy's gotta lay down the cheat codes. A Platinum Glove catcher leading the league in home runs?? Come on!!
...and the Mariners might still not make the playoffs.

I was shocked to learn that Cal's nickname (which I figured had something to do with his "dumping" dingers in the seats or whatever) is actually about his ass. (Courtesy of Winker the Stinker, perhaps unsurprisingly.)
I dunno, he's got a decent curve and some junk in da trunk, but he's no Anthony Recker, I'm just saying. Yeah, yeah, "the bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin'", to quote Spinal Tap…but still. I saw Mike Piazza, the king of butt-torque. When he hit a bomb, I would literally say "he got all his ass into that one!" I just don't see that with Cal, Winker's propensity for juvenile nicks aside. Cal is in fact a fine player. Perhaps one day he'll get a nickname worthy of his talents. |

Well at least Anthony Recker's prodigious tush is still spoken fondly about all up and down Long Island!

Mariners’ Cal Raleigh Launches Line of ‘Lil’ Dumper’ Baby Diapers
[Psst. This is from The Needling, "Seattle's Only Real Fake News".]

This must be recorded here.
Cal Raleigh sets single-season home run record for catchers as Mariners top Athletics 11-4 "Raleigh passed Salvador Perez’s total with the Kansas City Royals in 2021 to set the record." I think a few of us have pointed out that this is a loose interpretation of "catching", meaning primary position. Indeed, the article mentions "In the second inning, Raleigh drilled a changeup from Lopez 412 feet. The homer was Raleigh’s 40th of the season while catching". But I believe that I read, and confirmed in baseball-reference.com, that Perez DH'd in 40 games that season. Raleigh has done so in 30 games so far this year. So it's a new record for "catchers", not "as a catcher".

Mariners not dumper related but yahoo sports says the M's are in the mix for Walker Buehler. Good thing or bad thing? T Mobile is obviously more of a pitchers park than Fenway.

If I caught the Mantle Cal Raleigh home run ball I'd want $1-2M to give it back to him. I'm not giving it back for season tickets and signed jerseys or something.
Mariners look like the scariest team in the AL right now. We beat Toronto in the playoffs previously, we swept Detroit this year, and we play well against Houston in general. |

Heh, unfortunately for him, he is a year early for his "walk year". Anticipating that, though, I hope Seattle pays him what he is worth when the time comes. I would like to see more free agents stay home for a change.
