Guys! We are all fans of this beautiful, wonderful game. We are all hoping to see improvements. We are all on the same team.

I asked my question because I am what I call a "hard core casual" player. This means that while I have been playing this game longer than some people on this forum have been alive, there are some things about it that I don't understand.

I am particularly challenged by newer versions. I quit buying FM a long time ago because it just became so bloated, with so many moving parts, that playing it began to feel like a real-life job. OOTP has begun to feel the same way. I'm retired now, and certainly do not want my gaming time to feel like a RL job.

I really, really, REALLY appreciate those knowledgeable OOTP players who take the time to come here and try to give the rest of us a look at what's under the hood, so that all of us can get more out of this great game.

Thank you, Rain King, thank you, Brad K, and thanks to everyone else who tries to share their knowledge. Even if they don't agree on the validity of the knowledge they are sharing! I apologize for opening up a can of worms and causing bad feelings among my OOTP brothers.

Your procedure is not using auto-calc. When you alter it you're using jpeters-calc!
the auto-calc setting may be on or off is a correct statement.

What procedure are you talking about?

Brad, please stop derailing threads into a rant about auto-calc.

Antonin, there's a lot of options yeah for people who really want to micro. But also keep in mind, even if you don't set a strategy, the computer manager will still adjust to the actual talent around. If you have a lineup full of Babe Ruths, the computer manager probably won't lay down too many bunts. If you have an ace starter, they'll naturally pitch longer in games. But you can use strategy to either reel them back a little, or to push them a little later, if you want to control around the edges.

It can be hard at times, but you can defer things to your AGM/Manager if you don't want to bog down in the weeds. That's partly why we decided to create a mode like Drive for the Pennant, as a way to ease off some of the burdens, and stick with the most important decisions.

I like starting with moderate tactician and tweaking from it. For example, I like match-ups, substitutions, pinch-hitting, (moderate) shifts, stealing, aggressive base-running, but I don't like H&R and bunting. I also don't like to vear too much from what the game suggests.

Back when we had a poll on this, saber and moderate saber were the clear frontrunners and I get it, what I like isn't so much different, but mine is more focussed on aggressive play with as much speed as possible, while saber is more about power and taking what the other team gives you. And while I can understand not wanting to run yourself into outs, and I like power too, I just really like the philosophy of taking it to your opponent as much as possible, forcing them into making mistakes, and as a fan I love base-stealing and good base-running.

Matt, I'm sorry if this has been answered before.. I've experienced everything you're saying, but what is the intentional walk strategy for? Is it willingness to walk dangerous hitters or a situational tendency?
