Women's name file (ootp24) WIP

Because I'm currently in the throes of playing a women's league in OOTP24 (w/o Facegen, obviously) I replaced all of the first names from the modded file and replaced them with female first names in English, Japanese, Korean, French, Spanish & Dutch, Taiwanese & Italian.

I removed all of the stock names, including the original English language female names because they're not ordered in a way where I could easily clean the file up to keep them without lots of tedium.

It would mean no male names at all, so if you want to integrate this into the other file or generate some kind of alternate country that lets these use their first names and the appropriate surnames of their language you can.

Obviously save your real file so you can swap it back when you start a new league, changing this won't impact existing leagues so long as you don't reimport the names file. I didn't add extraneous countries to this one, just most of the usual standards for now.

Just glancing I'd guess it doesn't work because you have multiple entries with the same nid. 500001 is "Emma" and then later you start another group at 500001 with "Akiko".

ooohhh...I fixed that, but apparently something else is up with the last names. Ran it through a validator and found a missing N tag

I've attached the female first names file to this list, I've generated a list of female first names that work with the following language sets. It's not an exhaustive list, especially for the non-traditional baseball name sets, but it's just meant to inject a little diversity into your game (or mine, really. you just benefit from my silly idea!)

English, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, German, Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean, Polynesian, Scandinavian, African-American, South African English, French-Canadian, Ukrainian, Greek, Portuguese, Israeli, Hispanic-American, Czech, Turkish

I'm sure I'll eventually add way more, but for now, this works as I just wanted to verify that it even worked, but at least sets the stage for far more vibrant women's leagues if you're into that.


I imagine there'll be updates eventually or feel free to fork it yourself.

Backup your existing names file before you use mine, I've removed all the male first names and not all of the name sets from the omnibus file from Dogzilla, et. al., are present in here, but mine uses the same numbers as it's based off of it (and all of the surnames are still present for all the languages)

Here's an updated version of my file that is still very much a work in progress, but I've updated the file to include African-American names, English-language names (I forgot the first names last time, apparently) this is in addition to the US Modern set that's already included.

I did some odd ones too like Nepalese, Malaysian names as well on this most recent update. If adding it to your league, you would need to reset the languages for the countries so that it doesn't generate ones where I don't have female first names, but besides that...it works okay. There are maybe some other stray names in there, not sure. Plenty to start an international league with, that's for sure.

Backup your existing names.xml file before using this obviously.

Would be worth testing for immersive purposes...though it's been nice playing without facegen because then I don't have to worry about loading unis, just logos, haha.

I think it will be possible for women to enter the major leagues through physical strengthening procedures such as implants in the future society.

Is it possible to add this nameset to the default names.xml file? I've never messed with the names database in ten years of playing OOTP, but I'm hoping I can use this set to create a women's softball league within my current save of mens leagues. My theory was that I could group the female names as an Ethnicity/Language/Name Origin option and just copy and paste the contents of your file within the default database, but I'm guessing it isn't that simple.

Hopefully we get the option to have female players in future versions. I really am hoping to create a softball league soon.

The only problem with adding it to the existing name file in-game is that you wouldn't be able to control when female or male names generated and that would cause you big immersion problems.

There are people here in the past that create separate "womens nations" that let you isolate the womens names within invented or modified namesets and that would be the workaround to having womens names in your male save, except you'd still sometimes get them generated in your other leagues unless you geoblocked those countries. The other immersion problem here is that they wouldn't be able to be from existing countries unless you wanted to do something else.

TL;DR: For now, it's a lot easier to keep your womens save separate from a mens save, this way you can replace the names file with womens first names and not worry that the game is going to generate male names by accident.
