Wildcard Standings Don't Make Sense

In my fictional league the top 6 teams make the playoffs and 7th through 10th play in a best of 3 wildcard series. Looking at these standings the game has Boston in 6th place even though they have the best record in the entire league. Also they have New Glasgow listed twice. Can someone make sense of this or is it just an error? Looking at the regular standings page everything is normal.

Glasgow is tied with Montreal. It looks like Boston is the first place overall, as the GB column is empty.

I get that but Boston should be at the very top of the standings. Does not look right.

How many divisions are in this league?

Can you post a screenshot of your customized playoffs settings screen? I mean this one:

This looks like it's just a display issue. Boston is in first place as denoted by their GB being - but they should be displayed first. If you save and quit then come back does that fix the issue?

dola...

Also, I don't think that first section is meant as list of your wildcards, it just, I think, lists your division leaders. So that is why New Glasgow is listed twice as it is tied for the division lead with Montreal.

Would it be better if they listed the top list in order of best record? Sure, maybe, I guess. But it's not like the order of the top list matters, they're all making the postseason anyways. The one thing I'd change is make it clear the top list are the div leaders and the bottom list are the wild cards as it's confusing otherwise. If I click on wild cards, I expect to see the wild cards, not first an unlabelled list of the div leaders and then the wild cards.

So my league doesn't have divisions. It's just one league with 28 teams. top 6 teams make the playoffs and teams 7th through 10th play in a best of 3 wild card series to determine the other two seeds. Saving the game and coming back doesn't fix the issue. This is an ongoing issue. It's not really a big deal though because the regular standings page is accurate. Just the wildcard standings are wonky. Some times they are accurate though.

Here you go.
Note that my league is just one big division I think?

Ahh. That's why it looks extra strange to you, you only have 1 division. Look at an example of my 2 division league attached below. Yokohama clearly has the best record, but like your Boston it's listed after Osaka. They're both division leaders though and Osaka's division is displayed first elsewhere. It might look weird at first, but once you know the league has 2 divisions you can make sense of it.

Why your Boston is listed last, I don't know, but I wonder if the team ID #s (something you wouldn't normally know about, you can see them if you edit the league's structure) has them in that order. Whatever the reason, I do think it would be better if the devs ordered the top list by record and tiebreakers. Otherwise I'd say just try not to focus on the top list on that screen, it's more about the bottom list.

Yeah the custom options here are a little odd.

If it is one division then really any team outside of the 1st place team is a "wild card". So, if you uncheck the 2nd-6th place options and then check however many total wild cards you want the Wildcard screen will probably make more sense.

If the league is one big division, I wouldn't even have wild cards. Just have the top x number of teams make the playoffs; that is usually what I do when I only use one division.

Technically, wildcard always refers to playoff allotment regardless of divisional rank. So, if the top 2 teams from each division make the playoffs then wildcards would go to the next top team(s) according to win percentage, regardless of divisional ranking. Otherwise, you are just allotting playoff positions based on winning percentage regardless of division placement which doesn't require a wildcard.

Yeah, there's absolutely no point to wildcards in a single division league.

I do a lot of single division leagues and I've never noticed issues in the way teams are sorted when only choosing (x) positions for playoffs.

But I could also just not paid attention, since as long as the correct teams make the playoffs I wouldn't think about it.

I think what the OP may be trying to do is simulate something close to, but not exactly like, the NBA playoff format (which truth be told, I like a lot). But it's just not necessary, I don't think, to select any wildcards at all.

OP, is there something that doing it your way accomplishes that selecting 1st to 10th (or like Rain King said, 1st and then 1st to 9th for WCs) just doesn't? Maybe there's some specific format you're wanting that we're just not seeing.

This is what I thought too, but you can still do that without choosing wildcards in a single division setup.

Ideally (well, from my perspective) not even having wildcard options for single divisions so people don't even have the option would avoid this.

I think the teams above the line are not sorting correctly. We can look to fix that up for a future update.
