Baseball Cards x League Logos

Now that I am slopping through the rudiments of making logos, I have a very long list of projects. One of them is baseball card league logos.


My current game started in the year that Rob Manfred decided to get rid of the historical minor league logos. I opened the game up, replaced the [Atlanta Baseball Team] with the Hammers, did some routine set up, and then I noticed that all the minor leagues were "Triple A West" and "Low A East".

Well that wouldn't do. I decided to rename the leagues for players. At first I thought, the Aaron League, the Clemente League, but then instead I decided to name them for non-Hall-of-Famers who a held significant place in baseball history. List heavily influenced by the Baseball Reliquary Shrine of the Eternals.

So I went with
AAA: Curt Flood League, Roger Maris League
AA: Hideo Nomo, James Creighton, Fernando Valenzuela
A+: Dave Steib, Luis Tiant, William Hoy
A: Gavvy Cravath, Hal Trosky, Steve Dalkowski
R: Dennis Martinez, Felix Hernandez, Jose Rijo

I find it adds a lot of immersion. In late September, I'd check in on my triple A team and see that they were locked in a pennant race for the Curt Flood League title. And there's nothing more evocative than being in last place in the Steve Dalkowski League.

I used these logos, but now I think that altered cards/ graphics inspired by baseball cards would make great minor league logos.

Now I have made one test logo, but I find looking at cards from the 60s-80s heyday of baseball cards that I don't really have the aesthetic sense to really do this concept justice. I was just a bit too young to collect baseball cards. (I collected ~*magic cards*~ ) And so on the idea that other people might be interested in these (rather than the Duluth Houseplants or whatever nonsense I get up to in my thread), I thought I'd make this post to put the idea in people's heads. I'm not asking for all the above league logos to get made, I can get to them eventually, maybe, but I think that this idea might be a good one for some of the better people on this board.

Obviously if you like this idea, no need to follow my list, make one for a player that you like!

I made another one. Why assign your teenage prospects into the cold harsh world of the Dominican Rookie League, when you could instead send them into the warm embrace of La Liga de la Familia Alou?

I realized I actually inducted Dave Stieb into the Hall of Fame (and Felix Hernandez), so I replaced him with the J.R. Richard League. These are all sized 150x150 and look pretty ok in the game.

I tried a few different crops. All credit to the sadistic photographers who made Maris pose with Ruth's monument like he was Aristotle with Bust of Homer. Poor Roger looks so haunted. They made Aaron Judge pose for the same concept last year but he pulled it off.

I cannot think of a non-terrible way to make a tribute to this assassinated civil rights organizer that is also a python themed baseball team, but perhaps the Pythian's mascot is a python

I drew Jackie Mitchell! This is the photo that Zigglar's Tusk uses as an avatar. I have a lot to learn about drawing faces! But here it is

it uses the same parenthesis naming style and background as these of the guy she struck out
