I EXPECT the Bulls to be a 1 seed again now that he's back!

But seriously, after not really going after a 1 for 3 years because we considered we had the long-term solution... I am ecstatic that Ball has returned but I don't think there's a great deal of room for him now. Of course a guy with his talent will always find a role, especially if the defense and fast break ability come back (huge, huge ifs) but as of now the team has a guy who's close to All-Star level at the 1 in Coby White, another guy who's likely to take over DDR's role as "point forward" in Josh Giddey, and solid backups in Ayo and Dalen Terry (well, maybe Dalen isn't "solid backup" but he is at the "prove it" point in his career)... and you can't even really slide these guys to the 2 because Zach Lavine is there.

People are saying "ah yes he will be a good trade chip", like teams are just going to forget that he missed the past 3 years. Hate to say it but I feel like the most probable outcome is that he looks nice if no longer the old Lonzo Ball in rotation minutes and then signs elsewhere for like $10-15M per year.

Paul Skenes’ Topps Rookie Debut Patch autographed card found by 11-year-old collector

The kid already has this offer on the table, but the thinking is that they may be shortchanging themselves if they take it:

Madison Keys wins Aussie Open.

My knowledge of women's tennis basically ended w/Serena's retirement. So I never heard of Keys before. But reading her story is inspirational. Seeing someone persevere for so long to reach the top & finally make it is so great to see. Such an underdog considered long in the tooth for her profession. And she finally broke thru.

I'll say. 29 is quite ancient in this context. "Only two other women (Flavia Pennetta and Marion Bartoli) had more appearances before their first major titles. It also had been eight years since Keys last reached a Grand Slam final..."

I beg your indulgence, if you will.

While perhaps not a strictly "Feel Good Sports Story," I did laugh out loud when I watched the video. These days, we need all the laughs we can get and this one made me Feel Good.

Jersey retirement for former college star turns upside down

While discussing Rudy, my wife mentioned that Rudy(1993) is flawed because the protagonists major reasoning for wanting to go to college is societies flawed love of sports and sports heroes. Is this a valid criticism?

Short answer, no. This would make a good topic on its own. I will withhold from elaboration in case you decide to give this it's own thread.

Update: The kid is going to hit it big. A good decision by him to turn down the Pirates, although I am sure he has plenty of "advisors."

I was wondering what you meant until I went back over the Pirates' offer which included "two season tickets behind home plate at PNC Park for 30 years." Bingo, am I right?

Which would dovetail with my recent post in the 2025 MLB thread about The Athletic's MLB franchise rankings over the past two and a half decades and how the Pirates are the only one to pull a negative score.

Tim Wakefield, still making a difference...

I'm not able to verify this, but it sure sounds like him...
