Never forget, as much as Bob liked to joke about himself, he was a platoon regular for a World Champion team. (The 1964 Cardinals. Bob was the RHB catcher, McCarver the LHB.). Although I like the line that the game has used, with Ueck saying he had two career highlights: "I got an intentional walk from Sandy Koufax and I got out of a rundown against the Mets."
RIP Harry Doyle. I'll think of you every time I see one "juuuuuuust a bit outside". |

RIP Bob

I thought of you guys when I read NYT's obit that linked to this video. You know, we all use "LOL" a lot, even when all we are doing is smiling or at best chuckling. But when I saw Uecker's face at the end of the video, as he is being choked by André the Giant, I literally laughed out loud. "How about getting your foot off my shoulder? Gaaaaah!"

I was in high school when Terry Cashman released "Talkin' Baseball"
In shop class, I silk-screened a T-shirt that said "Talkin' Baseball: Willie, Mickey, and the Uek" with a picture of him. No one ever thought it was as great as I did. :-) RIP Uek

They say there's no such thing as perfection, but I really can't think of anyone more perfect than Ueck to play Harry Doyle. I mean he fit that role to a T.
Definitely going to have to watch the ML Movies again now. |

Uecker was always a reminder all this sports stuff is supposed to be fun. He will always be remembered fondly by sports fans everywhere.

Good idea. Just finished the first. Somehow I forgot the movie centered around Tom Berenger. James Gammon's character was probably my favourite.

Bob was synonymous with Brewers baseball in WI. It's hard to imagine one without the other.
