Thanks for the memories Ricky, was a joy to watch you play. I'm sure there's a spot for you on the Field of Dreams.

... He was one of my favourite players. Even when he was terrorizing my team, I liked him. Thanks for the memories, Rickey.

Everything I read earlier this morning I thought it was a joke. Bummer. RIP to one of my favorites.

I know nobody wants to see the Athletics playing in Sacramento (much less Las Vegas), but this is taking things too far, Rickey!

NBC Bay Area remembers. And appreciates. A lot.

Smoke Stewart and Harold Reynolds remember.

Jim Bowden remembers, too. (Can you imagine how many sacks Rickey would steal with the current limits on pick-off attempts?_)

Five days short of his 66th birthday. We'll have a blue Christmas without you, Rickey.

I feel honored that there's a Mets image in this montage.

Continuing…

Rickey might be the most underrated of the players who everyone universally agrees was great. Even without his baserunning, he was a HoF caliber hitter/defender. That he was that good, and then you add being the best baserunner in the history of baseball by an insane margin, is just mindblowing. And he was one of the truly great characters too. It's so sad that a guy that athletic would die at such a relatively young age.

Rickey would say "Rickey agrees w/you".

Rickey was one of my first favorite players. My first video game, Super Batter Up on SNES had Oakland right next to the Twins so when I wanted to try a new team, I picked them. Rickey for some reason had a backpack on while he was hitting which I found intriguing as a little kid. And then when he could beat up any ground ball or steal any base, that's an easy way to become a kid's favorite player.

I find it nice that while Rickey's retired number at Oakland-Alameda was a shirt with "Henderson" and 24 on it, his memorial at West Sacramento is a circle with "Rickey" and the number.

Rickey would want you to be on a first-name basis with him, I feel.
