batting stats by position

Is there a way to split batting stats by what position, or pinch hitting, they were playing at the time. For example, if a player played 2B, 3B, and SS I would be able to see their batting stats while at each position.

I don't think it is possible. What would this information be useful for?

It would help to see what production I got from each position to help me decide what moves to make either in the offseason or around the trading deadline. Also, it's just something that I find interesting. It's no different than seeing how players did in different places in the lineup, which is something you can do.

You can definitely check stats as a pinch hitter.

i always that is cool stat.... like carlton fisk hits a lot of HR and is known as C. But he didn't hit them all playing as catcher. He hit most as C, some as DH, OF, 1b

This topic also came up on my radar and I'm wondering if there isn't an answer somewhere in the game.
Logan O'Hoppe just surpassed the 300 HR milestone in my franchise. But, as a catcher he's only listed with 294 in the all time catcher leader board.

First I thought this to be a bug, but then I checked Mike Piazza. He also has 427 HRs total, but his catcher record setting mark is only 399. Both of which are correct acc. to the usual stats websites.

I think the respective gaps are due to these players also hitting HRs as DH, but where can I find this in the game?

Production by position would be very useful. Teams do comparisons with this information regularly I believe. I think it would be a great addition to the game.

In theory any variation is just noise, though. I guess that leads to the philosophical question of if we want to give the user misleading data, even though it's likely to make Billy might think that Joey Bagodonuts is a better hitter when he plays 3B than he is when he plays SS.

I think the actual value for those statistics comes from looking at them from the team level, but they have to be tracked at the player level for that roll up to be possible.

That's a good point, on a team level they would be good for noticing holes or depth in a particular team. Stuff like a team who makes the World Series getting a combined .216/.284/.335 with 16 HRs from their 1B slot, for a 76 wRC+

That is exactly where I find the value. How did my players do as a certain position group for the year and how does that rank against other teams in the division/league. I wouldn't use it to compare how a single player hits at different positions and try to make assumptions the player hits better if he plays a certain position.

This data is actually tracked in the database files you can generate for the game but you have to do some data engineering by piecing different tables together to really get at it though.

I would be interested in the process if you are willing to share it.

I wish. I'd especially like to see the DH stats.
