So, I simmed 2024 in OOTP and made an AI podcast about it

So, apparently you can upload pdfs to Google and make a podcast... take a listen.

https://notebooklm.google.com/notebo...37f7c782/audio

It's pretty inane but mostly because I sent it a hodgepodge of OOTP BNN html reports saved as pdfs. But overall, as a podcast about a fictional 2024 year in OOTP baseball based on that sparse bit of info, it isn't terrible for a tech that was released to the public in the past few weeks. It makes you wonder where this tech will be five years.

If OOTP could just spit out report outputs that could summarize the year and tell a story - not tell the story itself, just present all the disparate info on all the reports it has in a logical fashion... one could upload it and get (like the person that posted just before me), news articles, year recaps, history chapters as if from a book, haikus, whatever. Various outputs for various types of uses.

The need for those wishing to toy with this stuff (because it is coming) is outputs. Useable outputs for these various toys.

So far, the only podcast format is one called deep dive, so that's the structure the podcasters take. From the Washington Post (paywall) it describes that people are not just using it to summarize reports and homework and such for productivity. The reporter states: Creative people have used NotebookLM to create “Histories of Mysteries” podcasts out of Wikipedia pages, and to produce little career pep talks out of resumes. One person got the AI podcast hosts to have an existential meltdown where they realize they’re not real. Another got the AI to make a podcast about the words poop and fart written 1,000 times.

The last two I listened to. Pretty amusing. Makes me wonder what would happen if one of the long running dynasties on the forum could output its entire history.

It's great these tools exist to augment how we play the game. Nobody would listen to this stuff because our niche worlds only exist for us, but it's great that it's so much easier now to data crunch all the data we're making in our vast worlds.

I'm personally using NotebookLM quite a bit for research, and this was a brilliant idea. Surprised I didn't try it myself! I think of some on the boards who have or are keeping very long extended stories could plug that text right in there and get something interesting. It will try even with an amazing lack of surrounding information as you show.

It's easy to imagine several areas in OOTP that could benefit one day from implementation of AI. I can imagine owners or players having really lifelike interactions with the player.

I personally have plugged in roster exports, or even pictures of draft profile photos into both ChatGPT and Gemini and gotten some really fun feedback. Pros and cons to lineups, possible trade bait and some real feedback about who to pick in a draft (something people ask constantly on a site like Reddit). Gemini has openly told me it's trained itself on these very boards.

What I hate about AI is that now I get people in my online leagues asking me if I use AI to write my forum posts, or the extensive "This Week In Baseball" stuff I post in our league Discords. The assumption anymore is that everyone uses this stuff ... maybe I'm old and out of touch, but I like putting the work into these creative outlets without help from the robot overlords lol ... let them do my laundry or my house cleaning to give me more time to be creative, I don't need AI to help with that

I've also thought it would be great to eventually have an LLM as announcers. Each could have their own voice/personality and what they focus on, with varied types of color commentators.

The LLM would need to have a strong base of baseball commentary to learn from and then use the specific OOTP world data to build stories for the commentary. I'd love to have a modern version of Baseball for Windows (Ernie Harwell) where I could watch and listen to the game.

It has taken on users at an amazing rate but I think you could point proudly to the history of your recaps and shut that down haha. I very much agree with your sentiment though, despite my excitement for what they can do.

For comparison currently Baseball America has 30 pitchers in top 100 MLB prospects
