Fielding
Got a random debut that I started in 1946. Fast simmed up to 1960. Just wondering about some of the fielding stats I'm seeing. Brooks Robinson is in the league and won 4 Gold Glove Awards early on in his career. Since then he's strung together multiple seasons with a negative zone rating. No more Gold Gloves. Omar Vizquel won one Gold Glove, but he too has put together seasons with negative zone ratings. The one that stands out was -16. I may be looking at this from the wrong perspective. I'm not the biggest stat guy, but it sure seems like a -16 is pretty bad for a guy that's talked about as one off the best ever.

So, if development is on then the players are potentially going to regress during the season...particularly if they are older.
The Recalc will reset their ratings each year, but we know that the game will regress older players defensively quite often (understandably). A lower TCR won't curb aging effects (there is a setting for that also though). |

Defensive players peak at an early age. To understand this better we would need to know what their ratings were at the time of recalc.
There are, of course, multiple other possible factors but aging is the most likely. I'm curious why you want that setting on if you'd prefer not to have regression results? |

I would recommend lowering the Aging modifiers and/or increasing the Aging Target Age option if you are playing with development on and want to decrease players aging in their recalc seasons. |

Thinking about going back to check some of my OOTP24 leagues to see if this was always happening and I just didn't pay attention. |

If development is off, then players that played in 2023 will continue playing until about age 37-42 but their ratings will basically just repeat the rating they had irl in 2023. If instead of using 2023 you use an earlier year like 2022 for you maximum debut year, then OOTP looks at 2022 as the retirement year for players that played irl that year. Players like Aaron Judge will retire at whatever age he was in 2022. Assuming RAH is on. At least that was my experience when I was fooling around a few months ago.

Got it, but if development is on those players will age?
I think adjusting the aging modifiers should probably help this work better overall, but I guess ultimately the best feature would be for Random Debut to somehow handle "active" players differently than retired players. |

When I tested last May, same results with Aaron Judge using 1901-2022.

Using 3 year recalc, you will have fewer players with outlier type seasons but players like Cobb and Ted Williams may have a very dominating season or 2 since IRL they don’t have an average type season to pull their ratings down like most players.

This league started in 1962. Straight historical. 1 year recalc, development disabled.

Do you have any information on his fielding ratings over that period?
I'm not clear on what "straight historical" means either. Last edited by Rain King; 09-17-2024 at 07:17 PM. |

Were '62, 'and '68 in-game gold gloves and 2 inherited from before the sim? It's one-year recalc but the fielding is different, was that on same year or three-year?
His TZ was down in '65, and especially '66 per FanGraphs (Rtot in BBR).

Yes, he won the 62 and 68 GG's in game. 60 and 61 were from prior to my start. Yes it's all one year recalc. I had to recreate 1962 again to see what his ratings were when league began.
