Recap kinda buried the lede here
I think Judge had a little more than just a 5-hit game

Wow, nice game for Judge. Agreed, the game recap failed on that one!

Wow! Well, if anyone could do it, he could. The MLB record is 4, which 18 people share.

That's pretty good, but he's no Marshall McDougall.
The audio still gives me baseball chills, lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNx28BISXcA Last edited by uruguru; 08-15-2024 at 11:26 PM. |

I think the main issue is game recaps only recap one record when broken or milstone hit, so it sees 5 hits and ignores that they are all HR's.

Writing recaps and news stories for OOTP is really tough to do... there are so many variables involved... to be done well you need to use a lot of conditionals... the game does have enough conditionals to do the job well.
pstrickert is on the Beta Team. I worked with him years ago on PBP and News Stores. When he does a job, it is always very well done. If pstrickert had the coding he needs, the recaps would be done very well. There are a lot of elements more important than recaps in the game. Rightly so, OOTP should concentrate it's time on the most important elements. News stories and recaps are low priority. |

Judge's 5 homer game is secondary news to me.
To me, the main story is that you're 75 games into the 2031 season and Anthony Rendon is in the lineup and seems to have completed a full 9-inning game. |

We have news stories for 3-HR and 4-HR performances. Matt would have to create a new category for 5-HR performances. Is it worth it for a once-in-a-million occurrence? Don't know.

By the way, news stories often replace game recaps for certain superlative performances (5 hits, 3 HRs, shutouts, etc.).

If it meant operating how it probably *should* operate, such as making a big deal about a 5 homer game, than I would say yes it is worth it. Again, I'm assuming that was sarcasm. But if it wasn't sarcasm, just an FYI you don't really want to publicly say to your customer base "is it worth our effort...." That's really bad taste. |

I'm not affiliated with OOTPD, so I have no customer base. And for the record, I don't know whether Matt has ever considered adding a category for a 5-HR performance. I've never personally seen the subject come up before.

I don't think I've ever seen a 5 home run game in all my years of playing.

Apologies. The fact that you knew what Matt did up to this point and what he'd have to do to change it made it sound like you were part of the team.

I haven't either, at least not in a league that operates with some semblance of reality. Quite a few in some whacky fictionals I've done, but that was with crazy modifiers and park factors.

I am in my 85th season with a 64-team league... never had 5 homers in a game.
I have had 4 homers in a game on 11 occasions in 85 seasons. Agree with pstrickert. If it is a lot of work to code, it is not worth it. Don't think it will ever happen in real life baseball. I don't think it would happen in OOTP with any kind of realistic settings for your stats. Last edited by Eugene Church; 08-16-2024 at 11:37 PM. |

In the end all headlines are editable allowing the user to tag the performance with whatever they want.
