You can tell it's an older crowd for several reasons.

For the most part:

1) People talk in coherent, complete sentences
2) Paragraphs, or even a set of them, is not an impediment to being read
3) Having to wait a week or more doesn't cause a complete emotional meltdown
4) An average user does not consider Star Wars IV to be a "really old movie."
5) You don't have to hold their hand through the simplest of things.

There are exceptions, of course.

The part about complete, coherent sentences is spot-on, however. I am appalled at how poorly a large segment of younger people communicate. I blame it on social media and lack of education.

I find it interesting that we have more 60+ year old players then under 40.

I'm Gen X. We still know basic math to deduce the correct generation given the variables. It's okay. You learn about variables after fractions. I think they teach that in college now, because it was too hard for speciall little entitled kids of the 90s and the 00s, lol.

If you need practice on analog clocks or counting change back to people, let me know. I'll tutor you for $100/hour. I come with high qualifications.

Despite that, my gen was the first of recent american generations to start heading downhill. Each generation since has gotten less sophisticated in measurable ways. It's not a debate. It is just a sad fact.

Demographics don't always equate to individuals, but it does tell an accurate story of where things have gone and likely to continue heading in the near future.

TL;DR? -- No cap bruv bet finna! whatever that means in broken newspeak. Life feels like a scene out of "Idiocracy" every day.

As a fellow gen-xer (and I'm in the U.S.), I blame our parents (even though I probably shouldn't). My parents were slightly pre-boomer, and their generation that came of age in the '60s were probably experiencing a time possibly unlike any other in the country's history. From my personal experience, I get the impression that my parents' generation didn't always know what the hell they were doing. They didn't want to follow in the footsteps of their parents, but they didn't know what the alternative was.

I'm guessing if you ran an identical poll on Reddit the average age would be at least 15 years younger.

And the chaotic structure of that platform would reflect that.

younger crowds moved away from forums and are more likely to use an app like discord or reddit for their interests. i think you nailed it.

In addition to that, this forum is hardly a welcoming place for young people. It's filled with older folks who think their generation was specifically special and are mad at everything that came after them.

Yeah I agree with you about that, I don't know why some people are really unwelcoming and abrasive on here.

Honestly I use the forums because it's easier to look at older posts in the mods section and save logos and jerseys and such unlike with discord where that's more difficult to do (at least it is to me).

I about blew an internal gasket (which I can't afford) when my older sister told me my nephew never learned how to write in cursive. Cut from the school program, I imagine it was deemed superfluous.

I am 60 and started OOTP back in 2000 if memory serves. It was a good game then if a bit limited, particularly compared to today. We are spoiled. I imagine Markus just rolls his eyes (if that's a German thing) when the crowd here gets unruly.

I purchased the Steam version at full price this year in addition to the regular version at the pre-order price. Really looking forward to restarting my Giants GM/Mgr game in the next day or so. Enough rambling. Thanks for the poll!
